That thing, among others. To me, this was the easiest part to weld and we came up short. So what's going on behind the scenes. Also see how it's all super smooth? That's from running over an existing weld, which isn't ideal.

not shitting on this guys parts. Just helping others. A back handed learning experience.

I just looked at the pics again..it looks like 2 different people worked on it. Some looks really good, then other sports are less than.

Vincentmiata 12-28-2018 07:44 PM

Yes completely true. The welding isnt the nicest one. Ive made a closeup and inspected and there is no hole. Its just not looking good. Its all made out of 3mm thick tubing.

But im still happy how it all turned out.

oh in btw. Its equal length and tested with flow simulation. This was the shortest path of tubing i could make for this twinscroll design

Hey bro, your design work is awesome. No blame on you at all.

Der_Idiot 12-29-2018 06:40 AM

Definitely. The twinscroll crew is pretty lean. I'll be hoping for a dyno in the future. :naughty:

Checking in from the twin scroll crew. Still undecided on 6758 or 7163 though.

You should do the 7163. I can take care of the back to back t2/twin scroll comparison and it's on the same engine.

Superhead is sold. I will be running the same vvt head I have, just refreshed

kinda happy about that I really want the 7163 but dont want to have too much turbo. Like there is such a thing haha

Der_Idiot 12-30-2018 03:50 AM

I was getting used to the car at 430hp on the 6758 before I pulled the head.

18psi 12-30-2018 04:32 AM

No such thing as too much turbo until you boys start eyeing the 9180's :D

Vincentmiata 12-30-2018 11:58 AM

Here are some extra pics, Originally it was design to have milled collectors. Im running a MR-2 powersteering pump, and hope it still clears to steering axle to the steering wheel or how is it called.

And i friend of mine asked if he could have it 3D printed at school. Wich i didnt have a problem with:D

That's quite interesting. How did you produce the 3D model of the engine and subframe?

Vincentmiata 12-30-2018 12:10 PM

These models are made with 3D photogrammetery, but i also have 3D models made from scratch of the MX-5 but those are not exactly the correct size

You can see some of my work on the IL Motorsport youtube site like this movie

Go full YOLO and have that plastic mold turned into a cast stainless manifold. I'd like that for a 1.6 for under $500 please.

Joe Perez 01-09-2019 12:28 AM

I built a thing that does stuff! (Not even remotely car-related)

Nice thing! I'm curious what stuff it can do. Can it try to take over the world? :brain:

Me, too. We'll find out in a few hours once it's mounted on the robot.

TurboTim 01-09-2019 10:20 AM

I  machined aluminum look, but upper management does not. Many people think our parts are cast because of the tumble process we perform. Oh well.

I did these a while ago but never posted them here. As things go, this CAM software doesn't work with the ever progressing solidworks so i can't do fun stuff like this as easily. Damn software licenses.

That's so pretty, I almost wish you'd o-ringed the top with a thick piece of lexan just to see what's underneath!

TurboTim 01-09-2019 11:13 AM

That was considered at one point. Then life happened; I only drove it once this past summer. Miata is currently underneath 3 feet of patio cushions and a grand wagoneer hood. The car will stay at 98% done for as long as I own it.

matrussell122 01-09-2019 11:16 AM

Can a car ever really be done though. There is always something more you want to do.
