I didn't forget about you all (mostly because I get reminder emails each day) but I was out of office for a few days.
We are making an adjustment this afternoon to trigger the loading much sooner and hopefully avoid having to see the blurry images load on faster connections. I'll let you all know once it is live to see if there is a noticeable improvement. |
How about....... just putting the fuzzy picture "feature" on the mobile site? Since it's a "feature" for people with data plans. There is literally absolutely ZERO reason to have it on a desktop site in any capacity other than to piss off your member base.
There just isn't a possible rebuttal to that. |

There just isn't a possible rebuttal to that. Basically, Google shows our site pages as loading incredibly slow and we are trying to resolve that problem. We are also working on lazy loading advertisements to speed up the page even further. Lazy loading images does speed up the entire page load and we see the load times decreasing since it has been added. But our settings need to be tweaked so you don't see the blurry images on faster connections because it gives the impression that the site is much slower. |
Your site pages load incredibly slow because you keep adding crap to the site that's not necessary, and most of us run like... 60ppp.
|
@IB Nolan
Reducing loading times by not loading the images is such fucking bullshit, dude. It's like not loading all the posts in a thread, or limiting posts-per-page to 10 (don't you fucking dare). If you limit the content being loaded, the page might APPEAR to load faster on metrics, but the reality is that the repeated loading of each image as it's scrolled to makes whatever thread that is virtually impossible to quickly scan. You are cheating the metrics by making the forum shittier. Stop it. |
There have been changes made today that seem to improve the loading times significantly. Let me know if the blurred images are as bad as they were prior.
|
No change here, still seeing 3-5 seconds blur and jerky scrolling hesitation while images load. Still crap on my desktop with fast cable service.
|
Idk, seems much faster to me than the forum ever has been.
|
Thanks for testing.
It seems to come in waves with some large file size pics loading fairly instantly and other smaller images still hanging up at random. The full images should be loaded by the time you have them centered on your screen. I am using this section of the cat thread as a test: https://www.miataturbo.net/insert-bs...5/#post1378917 Let me talk with our image hosting folks to see why the speed and download times aren't consistent. |
Tried that test.
This image took so long to de-fuzzify that I had time to think "man, this sucks", then think "I should screencap this", then find the PrintScreen button on my laptop, then press it. Come on. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...52670ebf58.png |
|
|
Note that Joe has Photoshop or similar to fuzzy up the images.
I'm too lazy, so I just let the forum do it for me. |

lol @IB Nolan your devs should all be looking for work as baristas. This is fucking ridiculous.
Just remove the feature from the site. Stop trying to fix it, stop trying to make it better, stop trying to fuck with it. Just remove it. It doesn't work, and we're really sick of your devs using us as guinea pigs trying to make it work. Go shit all over someone else's forum, like Mustang owners or NASIOC or whatever other properties IB has. Just do it. No more excuses. Get rid of them. Today. |
Hello Andrew. Would you like to take advantage of a free introductory offer for forum sponsorship on a forum that doesn't continually trash coding?
I have that power. |

I have that power. I don't even think I have an account on cock rockstar. Is it nice over there? Last time I even looked had to be 6 or 8 years ago. |
The site works great. Traffic is low due to a password-geddon that happened a year or two ago.
I hear the admin is a pretty cool dude, though. |
you've made it worse, way worse than it was two days ago, which is worse, way worse, than it was three weeks ago. just admit failure and rewind to a month ago already.
|
just had a page error, crashed IE with long script and the page had 2 images. this is terrible.
Too bad your advertiser rates were minimum $300/mo and you're breaking shit. |
ill write a tampermonkey script using my defeat i posted before, so all the images will just load regularlly -- since our overlords decided they know what's best for us despite us telling them they dont.
|
Scott will save the forum yet again!
|
tampermonkey is a chrome addon.
|
Denial is a river in Egypt.

Clear pictures are a thing that happens on Clubchoadster.

@IB Nolan Are you trying to make club roadster great again!?
|
Ya'all making a splash. Seems the Clubroadster guys have gotten wind of what's going on here and have made a sitewide forum announcement.
|
it is finished.
|
Thaaaaaaaanks Nolan!
|
Hey @IB Nolan pictures look great, thanks!
But now Google seems to be reporting slow page loads at Miataturbo.net. What's the deal? |
so much better.
|
Nolan, just saved a forum
Put a gun against his head, fixed the forum, so its not dead Nolan, dev team's life had just begun But now you've gone and thrown it all away NOLAN!!!!!!!, ooh, totally meant to make you cry Fuzzy pictures won't be back again this time tomorrow Carry on, carry on as if clubroadster doesn't really matter |
What is Jeff?
|
whats funny is i was in the middle of working on a script to defeat when it was suddenly working, and i kept checking my code to figure out how i could have accidentally fixed it.

Don't we have any SJWs in here to post in utter outrage about how sexist it is to not have fuzzy images and how the patriarchy oppressed @IB Nolan to remove the feature?

I think it's time to leave my modem unplugged overnight to see if it resets, otherwise I need to call Comcast and have them reset whatever they do. Also, I may have been streaming a movie last time I checked for fuzzy pictures. DUH! |
I held out because I wanted to like the forum features... but turning off autoscroll and related threads made the page load 100x faster.
related threads was dumb though. |

Glad it wasn't only me.

Nolan accidentally flipped a switch 2 days early. DB errors were not supposed to start until tomorrow evening.

Still getting occasional DB errors.
Is giving an error and forcing a refresh the newest idea for boosting metrics? |
DB errors out the wazoo.
