Cats will return.

The old style had black lines in a grid, but some of the gradients masked it and we can do away with them if you like.

Old style:

I think what we really need is to make the "Last Post", "Replies" and "Views" columns wider so the "Thread" column can wrap more. We have infinite scroll, lets USE that fucker!

I'm happy I'm on the mobile app right now. I'm afraid to try The Forum on my computer.

I'd love to use the mobile app if they'd actually update it to work with the current Android version.

Fortunately the mobile site works okay, save for the occasional redirect with the loud "CONGRATULATIONS" out for everyone to hear.

Braineack 10-16-2018 05:30 PM

cant you guys just find a basic out of the box theme and use it? gotta be better than the current 3 year old picking colors and fonts... back to 2011 i go.

and can we disable the continuous loading?

Braineack 10-16-2018 05:33 PM

and the sticky header is neat, untill you scroll down more than like 100px... then suddenly reappears if you scroll back up.

Braineack 10-16-2018 05:35 PM

site needs a max width. no reason it needs to ever go wider than ~1200px, makes it hard to read.

IB Nolan 10-16-2018 05:41 PM

Sorry for all the confusion but the entire list of site updates is here:

Hah! My time spent on this forum is limited to only when i'm on a PC for that reason. The mobile site is completely unusable due to being overrun with ads/possible malware/redirects. It won't even stay working long enough for me to get to the "turn off mobile site" option.

Scaxx 10-17-2018 10:46 AM

I still want to puke every time I open mt.net now. It looks like the mustang forums, which are the opposite of mt.net in terms of actual content.

chiefmg 10-17-2018 05:00 PM

Now just like on RX7 Club we have those annoying "similar" threads appended to the bottom. Most of which have absolutely nothing to do with the thread you have opened to read. Has anyone actually asked for this stupidity?

skylinecalvin 10-17-2018 05:02 PM

As Chiefmg mentinoed, the "similar thread" that opens can be pretty annoying.

I am enhoying the infinite scroll function for long threads. The layout also look well after the black boarders were removed. Much appreciation to the work that goes behind the scenes.

actually no one ever asked for any of this stupidity, but I agree: the random totally useless threads it opens is super annoying

Not one person in history has asked for the "similar threads" "feature."

It's there so they can register more clicks to inflate their numbers to better market to advertisers.

flier129 10-17-2018 05:19 PM

THE STICKY HEADER IS FOLLOWING ME AS I SCROLL. MAKE IT STOP.

Any ad issues should be gone and please report any pop-ups or redirects you see so we can block them. Once logged in, the ads on mobile should be minimal. Supporting members have no ads on mobile as far as I can see.

concealer404 10-17-2018 05:23 PM

I've posted all that a time or dozen in the past here. Seems easier to just not visit the site on the phone. If it makes you feel better, i do the same on most Miata sites, too. Mobile internetting seems real hard for forums to figure out.

What specific elements are you missing on mobile? I am on several forums outside of IB and nothing even comes close to ours in terms of parity with desktop.

The ads shouldn't be a problem on your account as there are none when logged in.

18psi 10-17-2018 05:29 PM

Did you just remove related threads? if so, thank you SO MUCH!!

That's the problem. I can't even log in before the ads take over and render the site un-usable. I've literally never seen this site on my phone logged in because i'm unable to do so due to the ridiculous amount of ads (not all of which would be legal in the US in the first place. I don't need to buy weed on the internet).

User CP > Options > Disable Related Threads

That turns them off. I agree that they are the worst part of related threads and have it off on my settings.

We are working on scrolling into the next threads in the forum to get through "New Posts" faster or an option to customize that to add something actually beneficial.

Ah, gotcha. A ton of publishers had a slew of spammy redirects around January, including us, and those should be blocked and make it easier to log in. I totally understand if you tried back then and gave up.

I'll browse around logged out and look for any particularly bad ads that still exist. Curious about this internet weed as well.

Let's have a forum loading race. I'm at 9.30s on the Front Desk section.

I will say, my major complaint is the padding between lines. Smushed together makes my eyeballz hurt.

Much easier on the eyes without the black lines.

Please do not do this.

hi_im_sean 10-17-2018 06:33 PM

ill 3rd the scrolling into next threads, nothing infuriates me more on a forum. At least give us the option to turn it off.

hi_im_sean 10-17-2018 06:34 PM

nm disregard

You should stop working on it then.

IB Nolan 10-17-2018 06:56 PM

I was just sharing what other sites have suggested as a more useful option. Some folks just browse through all the threads in New Posts each day.

The options would be:
- load nothing after the thread is over
- load next thread in new posts or subforum
- load related threads

Joe Perez 10-17-2018 06:58 PM

I feel like some of these ideas are being generated by tossing a bunch of rubber balls, each with a word printed on it, into a pool filled with manatees, and then dumping LSD into the water.

Savington 10-17-2018 07:12 PM

Scrolling to the bottom of a thread should result in reaching the bottom of the thread. It shouldn't result in reaching the next thread, or the last thread, or your mother's intimate diaries, or sounding erotica, or whatever else "other forums" suggest. I've been to other forums on the Internet. They are filled with people who, if given the choice, would wear pants on their head. Stop listening to them.

sixshooter 10-17-2018 07:29 PM

^ I'm with him. The end of the thread is the end of the thread and you hit the back button to choose your next one by title and not have it chosen for you.

codrus 10-17-2018 07:31 PM

So when I go to a thread that I've read before, I immediately scroll to the bottom, then scroll up a bit to find the last place I read. This is totally broken on pages that do dynamic "infinite scroll" (because there is no bottom) and thus I wind up having to scroll through from the top instead. That's way less efficient.

If I click on a thread, I want *that* thread, I don't want random other threads. I would expect that most of your site usage is by people who read it on a regular basis, not by random people without accounts who are searching for stuff and want corollary search results. The layout should be optimized for the former, not the latter.

--Ian

Edit: my general usage pattern is to hit "new threads", scroll through the list for threads that I'm interested in, and load each of them in its own tab. I go to each one, read & maybe reply, then close that tab. Poof I've got the next one. "related threads" has no utility in this model.

Ryan_G 10-17-2018 07:32 PM

I browse rennlist which has the scroll to next thread feature. It ends up confusing me if I'm scrolling too fast because the topic appears to randomly change for no reason.

I've never been scrolling through a thread and wanted the forum to play "feeling lucky" to choose the next content I consume.

sixshooter 10-17-2018 07:35 PM

I operate similarly to codrus. Except that I click the first unread post button every time. Would not like to have a new thread at the bottom just roll right into it.

Joe Perez 10-17-2018 07:36 PM

^ This.

Always seems to happen accidentally, and makes it a lot harder to navigate the forum.

This is a very bad design concept.
