Seriously, though. I'm not sure why people would pay for any cosmetic items in any game. This is one reason why MvM mode annoys me. Everyone is all like "Oh, you need to buy this magical ticket so that when we win we all get an extra drop." Uhm, so you want ME to spend real money so that YOU can get a little virtual pin? But they do, so as a result we have funny hats to look at. I'm not complaining. (For the record, both my robot chicken hat and my goat-skull hat were free.) |

But I do take a certain pride in absolutely decimating some of these idiots that pay money for the shit. |

That made the front page in r/gaming or something yesterday IIRC, the video is 3-4 years old. There are more in the video, its pretty funny. I'll look for it I guess.
Found it: |
I'm going in for a bit.

Valve is running another freebie promotion right now. Install and play TF2 under Linux by the end of Feb, and get a free all-class Penguin.

Gonna get me a penguin. Sidebar: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1360920541 1: The generic mainframe computer in the background of many of the interior shots within TF2 is essentially a direct copy of a DEC PDP-11, with the PDP-10 style "Moby Memory" cabinets attached, as well as some other fictitious cabinets in the PDP-11 style. I have made this observation numerous times. 1a (trivia): In real life, the standard color for a PDP-10 cabinet was blue, and for the PDP-11 cabinet, the standard color was red. 2: The very first Unics kernel was created in 1969 on a PDP-7 at Bell Labs, as a breakaway from the Multics project with which Ken Thompson and others were growing frustrated. (The name Unics was a pun, describing the fact that it was a single-user OS, as opposed to Multics, which was a dedicated timeshare OS.) 3: Unics is the operating system which eventually became Unix, which was the inspiration for Linux. 4: The aforementioned PDP-11 (item 1) was a direct successor to the PDP-7 (item 2), and was the first machine on which full-blown Unix, as we know it today, was officially compiled. 5: A portion of said aforementioned artwork (item 1) is in the background behind the Pyro, who is announcing the release of TF2 for Linux. If you look closely, you can see that one of the displays is showing a penguin rendered in the amber ASCII-art style used by GLaDOS. 6: Penguins. |

I have to admit... I have moved over to PlanetSide2..... Sorry guys :/
|
I keep being exposed to new maps or variations of old ones that make it interesting. I've been digging into new servers.
And I still suck at certain characters due to not playing them enough so I've been pushing myself to play them for 3-4 weeks now. |

Trying a different approach. Brought home one of the high-end laptops from the lab for the weekend, backed it up, reformatted it with Ubuntu, actually got TF2 to install this time, and...
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1361081997 Blackscreen. Failure is my constant companion. |
So wait say you install ubuntu and get it going.. do u get the penguin on ur account that will show when u play on the windows version or just while you play on the ubuntu version of the game?

It is the size of a hand grenade. It would have been better if if waddled and followed you around. |
Haha. It's no Balloonicorn, for certain.
I recently became aware that there's apparently a large and thriving marketplace in which people buy and sell in-game cosmetic items in exchange for actual money, according to a rate table which defines a market value for each item, sort of like a stock exchange. Most crates, for instance, are typically worth about $0.01, while the Inflatable Municipal Ombudsman sells for over $10. (!) Given how difficult Tux is to obtain, I imagine it will wind up being an extremely rare item after all is said and done. I'll be curious to see what it winds up trading for. |
Whats the point to planet side? Do you upgrade ur character or what? From everything i've seen it seems like u get tossed in a random battle and shoot at people with no end and after you exit the the battle all your progress is gone and u start all over.
For example in WOT you upgrade ur tank, then buy the next one then so forth. Mech warrior you buy a mech upgrade it and so forth. Planet side on the other hand, none of the reviews say anything about that. It's all just people using the same weapon shooting at shit. |

If you buy a rifle does it go away after the battle is over?

Definitely would install TF2 if that happens... Cats expansion after that would be boss.

The fellow who created that has a LOT of free time on his hands.
Mann Co. was sufficiently impressed that Saxton Hale himself personally sent the dude a signed letter (via Valve): https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1361293611 |
That is absolutely the best form letter I have ever read.

Basically, two giant road-train type vehicle speeding through a canyon, inexplicably connected together via a pair of catwalks. Lots of environmental hazards-if you fall off the vehicle, you die. And between the two vehicles there is a wind effect that deflects projectiles fired across. Dogs? |
I dont remember another class in the original TFC. I played TFC a lot more back when it was on the Source engine or whatever it is.
|
Are they actually following through with this though? Or are these just ideas?
|
crazy fan submission.

To be honest, I don't have time for that kind of crap. I have a real job that earns me money.

When the robot-chicken hat came out, the way it worked was that you signed up for some free online service and they emailed you a code. So I created two throwaway email accounts and wound up with two chicken hats. This one will be slightly more labor-intensive (I should have kept a ghost image of the ubuntu machine I created before I nuked it) but I guess I can bring up another one and trade myself a few penguins.

Civilian (Classic) The Civilian, otherwise known as The Hunted or VIP, is a playable class in the Team Fortress classic series of games. It is not only playable in Team Fortress and Team Fortress Classic, but also in Enemy Team Fortress. Role The Civilian is the "escortee" in VIP maps for the Team Fortress classic series of games. He is only armed with the Umbrella. His role is to reach an evacuation point before being killed by the assassins. The Assassins need to kill the Civilian while fighting off advancing Bodyguards. The Bodyguards need to protect the Civilian while he tries to escape. On the Hunted map, the Assassins get 25 points if they kill the Civilian. If the Civilian reaches the escape truck, he and the Bodyguards get 50 points. Whenever the Civilian dies or makes it to the truck, all players are moved back to their starting positions. Trivia
