I gots to learn me how to play this thing in a bit. Is it like doom, halflife, etc? sixshooter717 |
Sort of Six, I'll be sure to hop on tonight and help out if I see you on and you are part of the MT.net steam group.
|
havnt played in a while, i think i may jump on if a few people are on later. i noticed the vent server is down is there another form of communication now?
|
Was fun tonight REdturbomiata/Sixshooter/Splittime.
|
Yeah it was fun. I was fail because of laptop mousepad look/aim and a bit of ping delay. And of course lack of skill.
I still get no cursor on any of the menu/game selection screens. Does anyone know what that is about? It makes starting a game or adjusting options nearly impossible and takes away game time and some of the fun. |
Need to ask the mods to setup games and send out group invites.
Anyone know how much pipe is necessary to host a TF2 match? |

Mann vs. Machine - YouTube I Fix Team Fortress 2 - Mann vs. Machine Mann vs. Machine is a new co-operative game for Team Fortress 2 that lets you and five friends wage a desperate battle to stop a lethal horde of robots from deploying a bomb in one of Mann Co.’s many strongholds. Take advantage of breaks between waves to upgrade your abilities and weapons. Survive all the waves in any of a variety of missions to earn incredible loot. |
and you know how valve have a habit of teasing the fans before they release something? well, they've been hinting this for the last 2 years!
Everything we know about Man versus Machine, and the ARG. : tf2 |

Depends on how many people. I tried to get rick to give me server space to setup a mt.net tf2 server. If we are seriously interested in one I can help. I have ran several cs and l4d2 servers in the past. Thoughts? |

Thoughts? Prob the l4d system of there is a serve that is idle that can run more then 1 games at a time that you randomly connect to. |
do you think this update will come at midnight or at some point tomorrow?
|

Ugh Steam is such a garbage program... I have the full game downloaded from before i restored windows... and have it all backed up but now steam isnt scanning the back up and its downloading the exact same shit AGAIN even though I added the old files on top of the new ones (everything is in the right spots).
|

Did you save the whole steamapps folder with .acf files? You can also copy the game dir from common folder to downloading and it should take the files from there. |
Well i have 5 games that i'm trying to get working. I saved the entire common folder.
Before this worked great but now steam has been "reworked" and this no longer works. Left 4 Dead 2 Being one of those games. I have the entire game folder in the correct spot overwriting the other files and it still doesn't give 2 shits of the new full files. It just starts downloading from 0. It doesn't verify anything like it used to. |
Ya you need to back up the steamapp folder not the common folder. I made back up install image for most of the steam games.
|
Before it was the common folder. Now steam changed it around a bit so now its "steamapp" folder. Shit thats downloading is in a "downloading" folder. then it gets moved to downloaded folder.. bunch of garbage.
|
Some games go in the common folder, others in the steamapps folder. It helps to drag n drop the right files into the right folders before you tell steam to "go get it".

It still depends on the game. Arma 2, yes it has files in both common and steamapps, with user setting files in the steam account folder within steamapps.
Hitman 2: No trace of it within the steamapps root. The whole game fits in the common folder. For a lot of the steam games, yeah. You're right. Most of the content is contained within .gcf files in the steamapps root. |

I bet coop will be ran in a p2p format or the person with the faster/stronger connection is auto set to host or a mix of the 2.A server should not be needed as it's a 5 person deal but we will know tomorrow.
Prob the l4d system of there is a serve that is idle that can run more then 1 games at a time that you randomly connect to. I think what you propose is too complicated and will require a whole new client. Your l4d scenario is most plausible. Valve will setup a server running multiple instances hosting the CO-OP map. Once a preset number of slots are filled the game will start. Its much simpler to do match making this way than designating someone with the fastest connection to host. It also leaves security in the servers hands and doesnt end the game if the host disconnects. --------- Regarding group games. If we can't find an abandoned server for the MT.Net group to play on then I can certainly attempt to host. |

5 would be a pretty odd (Pun intended) number.

Ill set it up tomorrow, test it, and hopefully we could have a game. edit: started the download now so its less to update tomorrow. |
Grrrr. I'm probably still 2-3 weeks away from home and my gaming PC. (Can't complain, as I am at this moment walking along Newport Beach).
Just had no idea the MvM update would be happening so soon after Pyromania. |

------- Got the standalone TF2 server and my router setup last night. I need to attempt to connect to it but I see no reason why it shouldn't work. It connects to steam and allows me to change maps. |
I usually play demo, but it doesnt work on all maps. Is the Mann vs. Machine an additional dl?
|
So when is this darn release, wanted to remote into desktop and get it rolling before I got home :p
|
restart your steam at 12:10 pst. that's when I always do it when i'm waiting for a release.

Heavy is a very easy class, as he is just point and shoot. There is some degree of strategy involved, but crafting and quick weapon-switching technique are not crucial. Medics will naturally tend to flock towards you. Pyro is another simple class, and for the same reasons. He lacks Heavy's range, but his speed makes it easy to rush players and flame them at close range. On maps where snipers tend to camp in specific areas, Pyro is a very important class as he can rush the snipers and take them out easily. On payload maps, he's also crucial to offense, as he can get behind the cart and continuously spray the surrounding area to reveal cloaked / disguised enemy spies which like to sneak up on the cart. |
I always end up playing medic and just healing.
|
Was fun earlier Six.
Too bad one of the teams was going full retard (2/3rds to 3/4ths engies and you know you got issues.) |

I dont mind when there is alot of engies doing area denial, that makes the levels last longer.

Heavy seems easy if you play him against a team of noobs. The fact that his gun is innacurate at long range, slow moving speed when firing and not, and high vulnerability due to size make him a very susceptible target. Get one decent sniper, spy, scout or pyro and its game over. You wont get a round off before you die. |

Engie-heavy teams can be fun if the folks know what they're doing. Particularly in CTF maps, if you have four Engies doing complete area denial around the intel. You just need to space out the sentries, stay vigilant againt spies, and repair / un-sap one another's buildings.

My server works.
So when do we want to schedule a game? Ideally id like to test it with a few people, maybe 4 on 4, see how it responds and then go full bore. Any volunteers? |
I'm online for a bit. Saw it pop up under friends servers, password?

PW: mtnet Ill leave the PC powered on all night. All talk is on, map time limits are 35 minutes, and the rotation is displayed at the start. It would be cool if we could get some people on around say 11'ish for a shakedown? |
Nevermind. You wont be able to play tonight and I think for good reasons. My server just gave me a message saying it was out of date even though I updated it literally an hour ago. Attempting to update it gives me a connection error to the update servers. I am assuming they are making the push to mann vs machine and their are no more slots.
