Nice!
Savington, it looks like a handful, especially exiting the turns. Do you have any plans to go with wider tires?

I made two dozen laps or so in a buddy's USAR Hooter's Pro Cup car at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL (3/4 mile oval)(Joe Nemechek's hometown track) when he was doing shakedown on it about four years ago. My neck was so friggin' sore from holding my head up against the g-forces it was ridiculous. Those cars have a tremendous amount of grip and those banked turns mean you are really putting it in there hard. The rule is if you start to lose the back end coming out of the turn, don't steer into it, keep the wheel straight and let it spin if it wants to. With the powertrain offset and everything built to optimize turning left, you will end up with the back end snatching you into the wall if you try to catch it by steering right. Neat stuff. And yes, much more challenging than it looks. And that was with just four cars on the track practicing. I would not want to race with twenty other yahoos at once. And it will wear you out, too.

I'm sure Savington will tell you that the banking angle is deceiving when you aren't on it.
I was probably doing 80 or 90mph. I bet it was nerve racking to be on a super speedway at 150 mph in a Miata. Was your suspension bottoming out with the aero and the banking's combined forces? You must make really good downforce at that speed with your wing and splitter. I envy both your car and your opportunities to get on nice tracks and run. Good job on the kills.

I liked the F430 Scuderia kill, too.

Edit: I bet your suspension geometry changes at high speeds on the banking due to compression of the suspension. Maybe that adds to the instability/jitters.

Seriously! I felt the same way until I went 150+ on Las vegas Super SpeedWay. That **** is sooooo nerve racking.

And once again congrats to Savington, you built one hell of a machine.

yeah, me too. ^^^^

easy now, just want to make it clear that i NEVER said i think nascar is easy.
i said: "i hate nascar, but i bet it was fun"

sav. - yeah, you can't tell in the video the angle your at. but i know at tws here, even on the straights your at a steep angle. my buddies camped out at the track one nasa weekend and they played on the banking in the corners and it was so steep, when you stand, your back is almost touching the track!

ZOMG!!!

I've been on the restricted surfing list here at work for some reason, and couldn't see this thread until today.

Just read it all the way through (and got paid for it ) ....Nice friggin' setup Sav. I see why we were all excited over the last month or so.

Sorry to hear about the recent failure, but with a setup like this atleast you're always motivated to rebuild/retry, and I'm sure that's what comes with really pushing the envelope.

Now I know why the **** title was necessary....super wood-poppin' build pics.

Good ******* lord. I don't think I want my car that fast. Certainly not in a world with turns. Or trees.

Very nice setup, fun, if nerve wracking, driving, too.

Do you think you'd be better off with better aero? Not for downforce, I mean, close up those windows. Seems you might be giving up a bit there - certainly **** that's fine at 80 mph is a whole other ballgame at 150.

What gearing do you have?

He's got the rear window out so the door windows don't make it a sail. The air coming in is allowed to flow out the back where the rear window used to be. All those windows gone are 50+ pounds removed. If the aero doesn't seem right he can put lexan back in.

I saw a black streak on the left side of the screen. It sounded like a Porsche, but you passed it like it was sitting still.

Props to you. That pure awesomeness.

I witnessed the sickness. Sav, get your turbo back up. I need to drive your car!

Thats impressive. How much power is this car putting to the wheels again? You should definitely invest in some gloves. They make the racing experience feel so much more bearable

I will definately be running on just the wastegate for a while with my setup. These cars are just stupid fast at 275hp. I need to learn to drive it before I am capable of handeling something like this. Kudos to you for being able to handle it well.

I'm having trouble figuring out how it would feel to have such a gay girls car () passing your $282,000 dollar Ferrari on a high speed corner..

Curb Weight (lbs)2975
Horsepower 503 @ 8500
Torque (lb-ft) 347 @ 5250

All I can say is WOW!!! I might've Jizzed in my pants! Do you have a six speed?

A lot of those higher end cars tend to drive a little easier. Sav built a cheap (relatively) race car so he could beat the living **** out of it. A Ferrari driver is just there to have fun and learn a little more about their car. Keep in mind he's probably still on Pirelli P zeros, and with the right driver (sav even) could kick any Miata's ***. Still a worthy kill.

A little easier? There is a guy around here that has an R8 with some R-Comps. That ****** can drive itself, even in the rain. If you google, you can see a clip of him ice racing it!

I've heard the EVO's do that as well. Pick a bad line, mash the go pedal and let the car take care of business.

It was on Hoosiers, IIRC.
