They would hit the stock mounting ears on our hub. How did you get the caliper all the way onto the rotor is my question. Did you index it clockwise or cc wise so that they didn't interfere with one another? I fully understand what your saying about the RX7 rotors having a different offset, so don't get me wrong. I'm just curious if you had the calipers as far down onto the rotor as possible, as that moves the caliper further away from the perimeter of the wheel.

It you look more closely at the japanese brackets, the bracket is mounted on the stock mounting brackets. It wont matter because the width of teh caliper is so wide that it will clear the stock mounting points.

read what i typed above about why they cut the ears.

i wish i understood this much about electronical stuff :hustler:

I would want to avoid running a spacer though. if this would require the use of a spacer, my fenders will need a pull, or the use of a widebody :eek5:

my wheels are 15x8 with a +15 offset. They rub in heavy sliding, maybe i need stiffer springs :bang:

Yuppers.. We index it as we did not want to destory some calipers if this did not work. We had the caliper all the way on the Corrando rotor and the front face of the caliper was the issue with contacting the wheel spokes.

maybe we should shave the caliper on the front :hahano:

elesjuan 04-28-2008 04:18 PM

Even on the Mazdaspeed wheels theres not nearly the clearance I had hoped for where it was needed most..

Probably means mine won't fit without another rotor/spacer either. I'll take a look when I get home. Anyone have any luck finding some other rotors?

I wish... Not enough to shave

Or the wheel. Or both.

I dunno, if you used the factory 10" rotors, that would put the caliper about a 1/2" closer to the hub (maybe). I'm not too farmiliar with your wheels Marc, but usually the spokes go out from the hub and curve inward. This is the problem obviously. I just wonder if maybe using a 10" rotor would help gain some clearance. It may. Hell, if we were desperate perhaps shaving a bit from the calipers and a bit from the spokes of the wheel would make it work. But that's not a simple approach obviously.

Spacers are out of the question for me already. With stock springs neither my stock MS wheels or +15 205 SPEC auto-x wheels won't rub, but both rub badly after a 1.5" drop spring. MS wheels just made noise, SPEC wheels damaged the fenders. Once we rolled the fenders they fit perfectly fine on hard cornering w/AGX's..

I'll keep looking.

Went out and took some measurements. I've got a good bit of clearance around my stock caliper, but the rx7 calipers don't even come close. These things are huge. The corrado rotors have even less offset than the miata ones. I would definately need more that 1cm of offset to use the corrado rotors.

I wonder how the RX7 caliper compares to the expensive miata wilwood calipers?

There has to be an OEM 4X100 rotor with a deeper offset.

Would you be able to mount the caliper further back?

Here's Wilwood's rotor spec page:

few folks here in Hong Kong has been converted to the RX7 calipers for a while now, compared to my Wilwood. Just by expereince, the RX7 calipers are much more sensitive to your brake pressure, and could easily lock up the front wheels (NO ABS). Where as the Wilwood has an more even linear pressure. Not sure if it makes any sense, just an personally impression.

Here's a list of cars with 4x100 lug pattern I came up with after a short search:

BMW 2002
BWW 3-series E30
Ford Escort
Honda Civic
Mitsubishi Mirage
Nissan Sentra
Saturn S series
Toyota Prius
Toyota MR2
All 4 lug VW's

Chris

Wilwood calipers are not expensive, it is the brackets and the rotors/pads that are.

Marc D 04-29-2008 03:26 AM

maybe we should fork over money for rusman to make us a kit with the wilwoods.

silentbob343 04-29-2008 03:44 AM

You can get Wilwood calipers for $125 a piece, not that expensive. They were $99 a caliper at one time. Of course they have various tiers of caliper and they can get very expensive, but I believe most use the $125 caliper with the corrado rotor.

The BBK set-up I have is Wilwood calipers with the 01+sport brake rotors.

Here's a picture of my BBK.
