We're (www.driftingjellyfish.com) super close to completing our RX7 t2 4 piston caliper retrofit kit. Just the brackets, you have to source the calipers. It's built around the NAPA/OEM sport rotors because they're super cheap and easy to find. Just an fyi for people looking for/at options.

What year sport rotors do you need? I just called and asked about 99 sport rotors and he quoted me $73 a piece, for a premium vented rotor. Said they didn't carry anything else.
Standard rotors for regular miata 1.8 brakes are less than $20 a piece. Edit: Just called and talked to another guy asking for an 03 instead. These are lifetime warranty. Front: $34.99 Rear: No price, they don't offer them for any of the NB years Maybe you guys can get them local, appears I can't. At least not from Napa. |
have you guys considered larger brake master cylinders. with a stock m/c pushing many more brake pistons it could make the brake pedal feel spongy.

I remember pulling something off of an older 929 and the master cylinder looked about the same size as the miata. The one you are looking for will be obvious, it'll be a 1 inch bore. |

Bigger brakes..Is everyone having that much trouble stopping? I have more issues with the tires not handling the braking lol

Price is largely dependent on quantity and what needs to be machined. Our engineer says the bracket needs to be offset but to cut down on machining we're going to make it out of a single piece of metal and try to use a small spacer to give the correct depth, mills are more expensive than having something plasma cut. The bbk from monster miata employs the same technique. Haven't nailed any of this down yet since he hasn't run the physics through pro eng but we don't anticipate a problem. So all said and done I'd like to see the kit get shipped for no more than $100 and I'd really like to see the manufacturing be cheap enough for a $75 price point. You guys can definitely quote me on that. Call NAPA and ask for 2001 or 2002 sport rotors. They're a really nice quality single piece. There's a huge aftermarket for those rotors but I'm using OE equivalent to spec the kit. They were around $40 a pair the last set I got but I was flirting with the girl at the counter so I suspect a discount was involved :). I'll probably get a few sets to carry on the site for people who don't have access to them, but they're heavy as a mother fucker so shipping will be a bitch. As soon as I get the short run in hand for testing I'll let you guys know. Ben, MX5Roadster feel free to email me, or anyone else for that matter and I'll update you with progress. Unrelated but exciting to me, I should have solid motor mounts available very soon along with the diff mounts. yay. |
One more question Jake. Do you expect these to clear a 15" +40 wheel? The wheel will clear the BBK kit.

They will clear the 15x8 +36 6UL wheels. I'll try to test fit as much as possible beyond that. I've got a buddy local with the old design chaps, I'm hoping it'll clear those so that those people will have an option since those wheels aren't bbk friendly.

Cool. I also have 6ULs, but they're 40 offset. If they fit Chaps, they'll probably fit anything.
