Since you can't vent fuel fumes into the atmostphere (emissions) from the tank when the tank gets hot and the fuel/fumes expand... gas caps are now sealed... but the expanding fumes need somewhere to go. They go into the charcoal canister and the fuel bonds to the charcoal. When you start the car, a small solenoid attached to the canister opens and via vaccum, the fumes are sucked into the intake. It's strictly for the last 1% of emissions control and has no effect on the operating of the engine. The little wiring connector to the small solenoid can be unplugged and the car or MS won't care.

Brain/Ben,
All they had at RadioShack were 1/4 and 1/2 watt 1kohm resistors... is that good enough?

car-part.com is a better source....
The lowest price listed for an ignition coil from any car on the list of source cars from the MOACopT was $20-$25. I'm assuming that's per coil, not including shipping. I found all the local suppliers I checked out in person through car-part. Some had prices listed while others had $Call.

Uh.... MMmmmm... DO'H!
I think I did something wrong and didn't catch it until I came up to post this pic... how come I only have 6 wires coming out of the IGNITOR and Brain's pic show's he's using all 8? I saw in the diagram the end pins were labeled NC, so I assumed NO CHANGE, as in I DON'T USE THEM. But Now I'm confused.

I also didn't expect all the *** inside the ignitor box and I didn't know there was a circuit board attached to the top of the cover. What function does that board have now in the system now and what do I do about the pins for the WHITE and RED wires?

DISREGARD: I found this post:
https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/sho...&postcount=189
Indicates the RED/WHITE wires aren't used for anything anymore... but I see Brains pic of his gutted ignitor and it looks like he's got 8 wires?

you're good. I smear some liquid electrical tape on any exposed metal, then fill it with epoxy. The epoxy should be done in 2 or 3 stages, otherwise the center will take forever to cure. throw away the metal lid.

Sorry I left y'all hanging. I hope everybody saw my other thread with the video... again, apologies for not representing Miata "coolness" well by giggling like a teenager gabbin' his first tit.

Anyways, more pics:

Ok, sourced my COPS and I'm ready to make my wiring harness. Brain recommends 18awg wire, but I'm confused what to look for. If I run over to Fry's and see wire that says 18ga, is that 18awg? If not, is there a conversion from 18awg to ga?

Thanks!

18awg is 18ga, awg & ga = gauge.
