Base is pretty close to the same, as is fully optioned. I also don't know anything about ND crash tests but I do know the car is stiffer than the NC and fare stiffer than the NA/NB. This from info supplied to me by representatives at Mazda corporate and a drive on a very twisty and lump road.

As a BRZ owner, I love the new ND. I don't like the roof preventing a proper NA/NB style roll bar.

I'm assuming this is the Ceramic Club with BBS/Brembo package? Impressive, to be sure.

We will have our first one at the dealer within a week or two... But it's going to be an automatic

Ceramic Metallic, yes. Grand Touring so no Brembo/BBS

I'm thinking base model. The LSD is only $500 from the dealer but it's a cheap Auburn type. Ours will get an OS Giken. Xidas already in the works. Wilwood already has a front BBK in the works. Rear calipers are already aluminum. Tooling already happeing for 6UL's. No reason for me to pay $3400 for the Brembos & BBS. That leaves a base model as our logical starting point.

But you only get one USB port versus two.

I ordered the BBS/Brembo package because I hate money and it's going to be a DD/autox car. Also, I require plastic go fast bits. The BBS wheels are going to be stored carefully after once I get some RPF1s and paint them bronze/gold (or 17x7 6ULs if the stars align). I haven't been to the the Western NC/TN mountains in a while, and I'm excited to take delivery.

That said, the dealer is still sending me form letters asking what it would take for them to close a sale.

e: just thumbed through the owner's manual; they're actually recommending 10k miles/1 year oil change intervals. The future is now.

I saw it in person--hate the rear end more now than ever.

now if they'd only stuff this motor in it:

Not familiar with Auburn type differentials, do they function like a Torsen?

Nope. More like a clutch type in action. This is a generic pic. The Mazda diff has a separate stamped steel bowl shaped plate with radial grooves that sits over the cones and bears against the outer housing. The one in this pic has no plate so the cone bears directly onto the housing. Seems crude but apparently it works. Early feedback is that the OEM ND LSD has a fairly low locking ratio. This heard second hand from someone who would have direct experience with it. I haven't driven an ND yet.
