Few questions:

Did you have to remove the motor for that reroute? I was thinking about doing it the same way.

What turbo are you running?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. My valve cover will be on here as soon as I get my new battery for my shitty camera

Thanks viper. I didn't have to remove the motor to do the reroute but; if I were you, I'd wait for the BEGI spacer to come out and if you're going to paint the valve cover, do both things at the same time. You'll need the 1.6 water neck.

About the turbo; it's a T3/T4 oil cooled ebay cheap one. I'm dying to see what it'll do with my rebuilt engine. I used to complain about seeing boost at around 4,200 rpms.

Thanks for the input Rafa. I know what you mean, I can't wait to see what my car will do when I get it back on the road.

Your hoses look like mine. Slide that clamp up onto the nipple for god sakes ;) I bet I can go out to mine right now and find a few that arent in place like they should be. Cover looks good though. What kind of paint is that? Glossy for what I assume is a spray can. Any prep work?

hustler 03-15-2009 10:41 AM

nice turbo.

At first I was going to give you hell for such a horrible color, then I looked at your SN and I'll let it slide...this time.

That valve cover on the first page STILL kicks ass. Just found this thread, btw. :)

I'll have a contribution in a few days fellas. In the mean time, any updates? New covers?

I'm on the fence w/ cutting mine or not.

Where are you guys getting this nice silver hardware? The bolts holding my valve cover down were just nasty OEM... bolts.

The OEM valve cover bolts are the ones you see pictured. Either yours are super dirty, chrome wore off, or not OEM.

You can find them on ebay for pretty cheap all the time.

The ones in the auction you posted don't look like the ones in all the pics these guys are posting.

Mine look like this: never mind the circles in the pic, not my pic. Just regular bolts. No round nipple on top. I like nipples!!

Valve cover bolts were different from year to year. Some chrome, some just bare metal. As to what came with what, I don't know. I know my 94 R package has chrome hardware.

After my attempt to polish the valve cover failed horribly. I had it powder coated and then hand painted the lettering with Tremclad high temp black.

Project84 06-15-2009 10:04 PM

WTF is all over your firewall!!?? EEEEEK!! Get that stuff off there, quick!

...so, sanding this thing is a HOLY PITA. I have the raised lettering on mine and it's getting in my fooking way!

kotomile 06-15-2009 11:55 PM

I want to see someone with the shaved lettering shave the letters off. I did that on my GSR valvecover and it looked very clean and sleepy.

Raised lettering? Ive got three extra valve covers in my garage. Maybe i should take the cutoff wheel to one of em..

If I weren't going to polish my lettering, I'd shave them... they're annoying and making my sanding take twice as long. Going tonight and buying automotive stripper instead of all this sanding crap.

QUESTION:

Anyone think it'll be okay to bake the valve cover on the lowest temp in the oven WITH THE SEAL still installed? My seal is pretty hard for what I assume is silicone; work hardened no doubt. If I try to remove it I bet it'll break into 50 pieces.

That's my favorite, and my goal. I couldn't find Duplicolor wrinkle anywhere so I got VHT instead. Hope it turns out!

curly 06-16-2009 07:45 AM

Buy a new valve cover seal, it's rubber, and should be very flexible.

Here's my first attempt on my 93 with VHT Wrinkle Red

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/18/083e.jpg

It's a little light in places, but OK.

Here's my second attemp on my 96 with VHT Wrinkle Black

http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/8042/img2034f.jpg

A little too thick in places. I'll eventually get it right.

Project84 06-16-2009 09:45 AM

I think the VHT is too wrinkly... I'm going to keep looking for Duplicolor wrinkle and return the VHT when I find some Dup.

Hmm...

Curious, does anyone have a close up of a 2001+ or an MSM valve cover? Im curious if it would fit on a 99 with a toyota COPs setup.

2001+ has COPs systems stock, as well as the MSM's, but the MSM's didnt have VVT. According to FM, MSM valve covers wont fit on a 94-2000 because of the spark plugs are different (i.e. COPs), and they wont fit on 2001+ because they dont have accommodating areas for VVT. May it not work for 94-2000 because spark plug hole size? Anyone care to measure the valve cover's plug diameter?
