Letting all the mods you want add up to a certain number value that throws you in a certain class keeps people from spending retarded money on parts that are grey.
Then they just claim they don't have certain mods and are stuck in a lower rules bracket.

Cheating can be just as rampant in that series.

In my experience there are two things that make racing expensive:
1. Crashing
2. Winning
Fortunately one of them is very easy to avoid.

You're not going to get the cheating out of racing, especially with the escalation in popularity of a class.

no one's felt the need to cheat. we are trying to develop our cars and driving skills and have fun while doing it. plus if you read the rules, it's not that easy to cheat cuz there's not much that isn't legal in the lower classes that isn't easy to spot. plus we're not "racing"

How about this idea:
Everybody entered in the race puts a name in a hat, car numbers are drawn out and that is what car you race that day.
Solves the cheat plus contact problem.

Won't happen but it is a solution.

Opens up a whole bag of other problems.
What about car setup? Legal to change and not everyone runs the same.
What happens if you do wad up someone elses car?
Seating position, ballast, trust in cage builder, fire system or just extinguisher, data systems, coolsuit setups, race radios, etc.
