Very interesting Spec Miata thread
I think this is why Emilio's Miata Challenge is taking off. If you want to send your bilsteins off for a revalve its not cheating, cams not cheating, etc. So instead of the guys paying 7k for a "stock motor" they can pay 7k and build a car. Letting all the mods you want add up to a certain number value that throws you in a certain class keeps people from spending retarded money on parts that are grey.
Cheating can be just as rampant in that series.
In my experience there are two things that make racing expensive:
1. Crashing
2. Winning
Fortunately one of them is very easy to avoid.
You're not going to get the cheating out of racing, especially with the escalation in popularity of a class.

no one's felt the need to cheat. we are trying to develop our cars and driving skills and have fun while doing it. plus if you read the rules, it's not that easy to cheat cuz there's not much that isn't legal in the lower classes that isn't easy to spot. plus we're not "racing"
How about this idea:
Everybody entered in the race puts a name in a hat, car numbers are drawn out and that is what car you race that day.
Solves the cheat plus contact problem.
Won't happen but it is a solution.

What about car setup? Legal to change and not everyone runs the same.
What happens if you do wad up someone elses car?
Seating position, ballast, trust in cage builder, fire system or just extinguisher, data systems, coolsuit setups, race radios, etc.
