Best way to get the right bolt is to either:
A: buy it from a dealer ( expensive, takes time )
B: Pull the bolt that is still there, ( check the other hole's threads while you are there ) then take that bolt to your local hardware store and buy a matching bolt.
Just make sure to get a suitable grade of bolt.
Then put in a new slave cylinder, bolt no with your new bolts, bleed the clutch and then have fun.

here is the previous owner being an idiot, he probably just neglected to install the top bolt that he was having trouble with. I'm guessing I will run into the same problem of not having enough room to install it correctly :/

Well, if the distance between the slave and the fork is now correct and the slave isn't completely compressed to fit, then it would seem he just forgot to put the top bolt in. This would obviouslky bind up and fail. It's a bit of a trick to get the slave compressed while installing, but it can be done...I've done it a few times. If you have the time/money, I'd highly recommend getting a "race" stainless steel clutch line while you're in there. It goes between the slave and the upper hard line and makes installing everything much easier.

it looks like there might already be a stainless line

Well, if it currently looks that compressed, the transmission will need to come out as it's not supposed to look like that.
If all is well, like this...
...then it's using two hands and a few words in anger to get it all lined up. It's a matter of getting the rod nipple seated into the fork and getting the bolt holes lined up. It's not really that bad if you are flexable.

TheDriver, you need to figure out what's going on with the clutch. If that pic you posted from the P.O. is what it currently looks like, it's not right. Dopps' pic is how it should look.
No real trick to installing the slave, it's just kinda a pain in the a$$.
