I think the OEMs may do that primarily for safety concerns. So they're not getting sued by some idiot that electrocuted himself somehow. Anyone on here that does that will just get mocked by the forum, and maybe other forums too.

Every solder I know of melts before 500*F. If you've melted the wires, then every solder point under the hood is dripping.

There is no reason to discourage customers based on something that isn't backed up by any scientific fact. Teflon is one of the highest melting thermoset polymers available. There is a reason this wire rides in F-22 wing tips. I gauruntee you those plastic pieces shown in that picture are not made from teflon because they would cost probably 200-300 dollars. This is the most high qaulity wire, and insulator combination available ANYWHERE, and if it melts the insulation on these wires, then it will also melt any other protections put over the wires except for exotic high temperature epoxies that cost in excess of 200 dollars a gallon.

Keep in mind, that your cylinder head is approxiamtely the same temperature as you water. The eviroment should never exceed 120*C on a normal basis or your water is literally boiling in the head, and your oil is cooking.

Hey Travis, we still good for a July ship date?

TravisR 06-24-2009 05:30 PM

On track so far!

TravisR 07-01-2009 12:26 AM

Got an update.

I suspect the ship date will be pushed back a little bit just because of the sheer number of orders. I'm getting ready to take down the pre-orders so we stop getting them. We will be shipping about 3 times the amount we expected. I'll let you know when it goes out. We don't want to create a slurry of shipments. So when we get every single pre-order done and boxxed they will go out on the same day.

I will post here as well as send an email when the units do go out.
Travis

Dude, just divide them in three groups and ship accordingly. And put me in the first group :)

yeah, ditto. Ship 'em out in the order received, FIFO bro. How much of a delay are we talking about?

JayL 07-01-2009 11:48 AM

First to pay should be the first to receive. This sounds fair to me, especially if I was quick with my payment.

TravisR 07-01-2009 03:19 PM

Well its a little more complicated then that because of how these kits are assembled. We're only talking about next Monday, its not going to be like a week or two.

thymer 07-01-2009 06:59 PM

That's cool, makes sense.

thymer 07-09-2009 08:45 AM

Update? Were these shipped on Monday?

TravisR 07-09-2009 08:53 AM

I have coils but no housings or printed circuit boards yet. Manufacturers just missed the expected completion times on their orders. When I get the parts to put them together they will go out.

So how did we get from shipping on Monday to no housings or printed circuit boards????? Sounds like we're not being completely honest about progress. I don't mind waiting but you should not make promises that you can't keep.

Well manufacturers give me false shipping estimates, and then I update my customers with these estimates thinking they are right. Just like the place that did my frame rails. I waited and waited on them they ended up shipping products 2 weeks after they qouted the absolute last shipping date.

I do the best I can with keeping the most up to date information out there, but if I get told one thing and another happens I just don't really know what to do or say. I prepared and had extra people ready to jump in and help me all last week for a shipment that never came.

Laur3ns 07-09-2009 09:57 AM

Travis, you're probably doing the best you can, but: people on the Internet are spoiled and expect everything to by in stock and expect same day delivery for anything they order anywhere - so do I.

You should always add some marging for yourself. I learned this too. When your supplier says delivery in 4-6 weeks, you reply back 6-8. That is if you don't need to do anything yourself, otherwise add your own time to that, so a week for assembly, Q&A, packacing is nothing.

So, back to square one: when can we expect this to ship out? That is mailed out a.k.a. no longer in your hands?

Just keep us informed as things change and the reasons for the delays (so, does this give you more time to work on the intake manifolds?).

TravisR 07-09-2009 06:37 PM

I'm hoping next week. I'll work all night to put them together if I have to, but no more then 2-3 weeks or I'll have some companies by the throat. You can't miss a ship date by 2 months!

The manifolds have been getting attention, as I've designed more and more of these roller throttles, I'm starting to lean towards them instead of throttle plates again. I've been designing a replacement roller throttle for the main throttle on the Miata, and the smaller ones that would make up an independent throttle body would be a much easier task, and the hype.... wow. Imagine the first time some unsuspecting gear head opens the roller throttle and sees nothing but intake valve.

JayL 07-09-2009 09:25 PM

Thanks for the update. As for the manifold comment, I was just joking. I'm about to spend all my manifold money on axles.

matttheniceguy 07-12-2009 09:12 PM

Are you having your manufacturers build you enough of these setups that you will have some extra in stock after the group buy?

I'm intending to buy one, but was planning on waiting until after the initial batch went out and was verified as good shit by everyone. Worth the extra $20 for me.

TravisR 07-12-2009 09:28 PM

Yea, once I get these shipments in I'll have a constant supply of inventory.
