I think they did a glide test with it, but that was pretty much it. Just mothballed forever.

Seems like a good plot piece for a space opera movie/show. They have to restore the derelict russian shuttle and launch it with a rag tag crew to save the something from the something.

At least once a year. Nothing ever comes of it, as I am far too cheap.

They made that movie in 1989.

It's one of those films that was so bad it was good. There's supposedly a sequel in production right now.

At the moment, I'm stuck on the Volvo 850 T5 wagon. Yup happens to me every once in a while. I ended up finding a nice jeep wrangler completely gutted with a V8 in there and 39s. Unfortunately the guy expects to get way too much a vehicle that needs a lot of work to get it street worthy. well to be exact i was willing to pay him what he wanted for the jeep but he wanted to sell his extra sets of tires with the jeep.. i'm like no i only want the jeep.. anyways. no heater, no roof, no windshield, no mirrors, no fenders, fuel tank is a fuel cell inside the vehicle, the body is all cut up and theres quite a bit of rust on it. Basically it's a great drivetrain but everything else needs to be replaced/fixed.

I do that freauently. the miata was actually one of those cases, I just always went back to it. But I fully understand you with those volvos. There is a handful of guys modding them, but they are just as fanatical as this site. so you'll find lots of info for them too.

Interesting. Ill have to give it a watch.

They did something similar in the Cowboy Bebop episode "Wild Horses" in which they launched the Columbia (this was before it burned up) as a SSTO for reasons I dont quite remember. Regardless of that I recall it being one of the first episodes I caught on TV which motivated me to watch the series.

Here's one.

A friend of mine.
Crosspost from another site.
I think I survived a lightning strike...
Either that or I **** my pants or sat in coffee. All I know is that it wasn't there and then it was

Got out of the truck and made a bee line for the house in the storm. Got inside and it was there. Nothing in the truck seats and it wasn't there at the store. Odd because it appears to run upwards.
we were in the store (bought what's her face a mountain bike for her birthday) storm was coming and loaded it in the truck in the rain and when we got home it really opened up.

She came around to help Abby out of the truck while I moved said bike and she says it wasn't there. Ran from the truck to the house and once inside she says what's on your shirt?

It literally showed up within 15 seconds. I think i survived a lightning strike, or a near strike!
It wasn't there getting Abby out of the truck, get in the house and the smoke detector in the kitchen was going off and it was there. Swear to god boys

Something is is afoot at the circle k
Not a mark on my body, just the shirt
Hit a spot with a bic lighter to compare, it's for sure a burn

^^ SO was there any flash or bang which accompanied this mark on his shirt?

Default The Random Pictures Thread. Only Rule: Post here more and entertain me.

If you are within about 40ft of the point of the strike there is no boom. Only a sizzle /humming sound that could be missed in noisy rain while running.

If you are within the first compression wave there's no boom.

Seeing **** like that fires up my OCD reflex.

The shuttle (US) carried no on-board fuel for the three main engines at the rear. Those engines guzzled so much fuel that they had to be supplied entirely by the external tank upon which the shuttle hung while on the launch pad. The gas tank was bigger than the vehicle itself, and the two solid-rocket boosters were there primarily to lift the fuel which supplied the engines which lifted the shuttle. Seeing the main engines lit without the ET attached is like seeing Mermaid Man without Ernest Borgnine.

Fun facts:

The Soviet shuttle Buran actually did fly one orbital mission, unmanned, under computer control. It was a success, but the program was scrapped immediately thereafter as the Soviet government couldn't justify continued funding. (Remember that the USSR was imploding at this point.)

There were a number of craft built during the program. One airframe flew a glide-test mission, equipped with conventional turbojet engines.

A number of other airframes (besides Buran) were in various stages of completion at the time the project was scapped, including one nearly completed.

Despite the visual resemblance, the Воздушно Космический Корабль, unlike the US shuttle system in which every part of the launch vehicle was re-used, was launched astride a completely disposable Энергия rocket.

Interesting. I did not know that (fortunately?). What about the light flash during the arc?
