So, yesterday I had a angioplasty done, to try to seal one of the leaks from my recent stent procedure. They go in through the left wrist, through the radial artery. It's a pretty big hole for such a small blood vessel, so afterwards, they have to be absolutely sure it has stopped bleeding, and will stay that way. Used to be, some nurse had to stand there and apply pressure for 15 minutes with his or her hands. Not a very comfortable or precise way to do it.

Nowdays they use a much more high-tech approach, called "Vasc Band Hemostat Bracelet". It's a clear plastic pillow that is placed over the wound, and there's a tube with a check valve and a syringe attached. They can blow it up to put pressure directly on the wound, and release it slowly in increments to ensure bleeding has stopped. After an hour or two, they remove it and bandage as usual.

I just thought that this cool stuff they are using these days would be of interest to the geeky types we have here.

Edit: they wouldn't let me save the pillow/bracelet thing (medical waste), but I did keep the syringe.

277, flopping in the breeze. On my second picture.

The wiring burnt up by sulfuric acid in that LB was just 120v.

I had to google. Apparently it is said that ingesting ginger or pineapple juice improves the taste of semen.

Ebrake actuator stuck on this side.

These Kevlar g-loc pads have a unique smell. And thankfully can take some serious heat.
