As battles go, it was pretty epic for the British. 1800 soldiers in a remote Garrison in southern Africa using single shot rifles and bayonets defend against an onslaught of 20-25,000 Zulu Warrior tribesmen equipped with spears and shields.

This is a really cool idea and this drummer did a very good job. They give the drummer a song that already exists that he's never heard before and remove the drum track from it and he has to improvise it after only hearing it once.

Mike Portnoy paying that nickelback tune was great. Also pneuma.

That's pretty wicked.

Default A VIR Story

I left the Hampton VA area for Virginia International Raceway Friday afternoon. I tow the Miata to the track with a 2012 Tundra. I prefer taking US58 there even though it takes longer as it is much less stressful. It's about 216 miles each way.

I stopped at the Chic Filet on Mercury. I broke my USB car charger getting out of the truck. After putting my lunch in the truck, I opened the passenger door of the Miata to search for another charger. I knew I had one in my box of ****, but it was buried under all my clothes. I said eff it and got back in the truck.

There’s a dollar store of some species in Ivor, so I stopped to get a charger. I found one and the lady at the counter said “That’ll be 14.95”. I said no thanks and left. I didn’t want to do it, but I stopped at the Miata and pulled her charger out of the cigarette lighter. Then I got back in the truck.

A couple of hours later, I stopped at the Valero in South Boston because I can fill up the truck and top off the Miata at the same time. I opened the door of the Miata to pop the fuel door. After filling both vehicles, I pulled forward to clear the pumps, and went inside to pee. I got back in the truck for the final leg to VIR.

I was just a little early, and had to wait with the group before being let down to the Paddock. When we were released, I stopped at the admin building to get my room key. I had the windows open on the truck. Then I drove down to the North Paddock.

I had all my clothes in the Miata, and my box of ****. I got the Miata off the trailer and drove it closer to my room to unload. I made three trips with the Miata to get all my stuff to the room. Then I drove her down to techistration.

I waited in line for tech, moving forward when the gap got big enough, otherwise I was out of the car chatting. The tech guys checked under the hood and in the trunk. I got my instructor sticker and drove back to my parking spot.

I get out of the Miata and I see a cat. It was dark, but I said to myself “Jeez, that looks like Muffin”. I bent down to touch it, and it ran under the Miata. By the time I got down on the ground to look under the car, it was gone. I’m thinking, there’s no way that was Muffin.

However, I called my son and asked him to confirm the Muffinator was at the house. He could not immediately find her, but that was not a surprise. I went to dinner with one of the other instructors.

When I got back to VIR my son still hadn’t seen Muffin, so I put on some warm clothes, grabbed a beer, and went out to where I parked. I stood between the Miata and the Tundra and went “Meow”. I got a “Meow” back. It was Muffin. She was under the car somewhere. I popped the hood and found her laying on top of the lower engine cover, under the crank pulley. I jacked up the driver’s side front, pulled the wheel, and opened the inspection door on the engine cover. She eventually came out and I got her up to my room.

After Saturday's track sessions, I put Muffin in my duffel bag and drove to South Hill to meet my son. He took her home.

I have no idea which vehicle she stowed away in. She’s home safe now, and seems untraumatized.

Good grief. Cats certainly do surprise us sometimes.
