Cool, they can run up to 2.5 bars (about 37 psi) of boost without det, but they do this at 10 to 14 degrees ATDC. I mean, What's the point of all this mechanical flustercuck if you are ending up with a massively retarded setup?

Also, when two pistons do the job of one, don't you get twice the friction, twice the pumping effort to lubricate and cool the associated hardware, and twice the weight?

And, what exactly is the advantage behind having someone else compress the air and hand deliver it to you, besides the obvious additional paths for failure?

From what I gather, this engine has to be boosted, just like a miller cycle engine. Well, don't conventional engines run just fine employing boost - in some cases hybrid, complementary systems such as a SC feeding a turbo?

Sorry guys, but it sounds like asking the neighbor to deliver cupfuls of electricity to my place so I can watch TV.

Somebody please enlighten me if I am waaay off base here.

You're waaay off base here.

This is essentially a 2 stroke engine..to put it in prospective terms, imagine our miata having only 2 cylinders that did twice as many power strokes. The other 2 cylinders do nothing but compression. This is great because you can simply enlarge the compression pistons to create more "boost". Imagine a "turbo" miata without all the turbo stuff costing extra. Next thing you'll only have 2 exhaust ports, not 4 so its definitely easier to route aftermarket piping. Same with the intake. Also since it's continuous the pulses from the valves closing become less of an issue so the flow that a valve sees is nearly continuous. This allows for more narrowed down cooling. You're not cooling the entire engine now, you're only mainly cooling the parts that get hot such as the power stroke pistons. The engine does not need to be boosted.

The only thing i dont really like is whats happening between the 2 valves.

^^ Old news... what's he care? - he was unconscious - didn't feel a thing. Lucky he didn't 'accidently' get a bullet after trying to hit that officer rolling out the strips... what else they gonna do? Lynching is illegal in some parts of Alabama now :eek3:

So, they are trying to make a traditional piston engine more like a rotary? Huh.

They just described a 4-rotor rotary engine's ignition events to a T, and 2/3 rotor have similar events.

Well, just off the top of my head, one power stroke per crank revolution per pair of cylinders. Yes, I know that a 4cly has that not, but in a thermodynamic sense you get one power stroke per revolution on the same otto cycle that takes convention engines two revs. I hear you about all the friction. And there is inter-cooling of the compressed air to consider. I'd have to see more to believe the engineering merit. Kinda like a 2 stroke diesel... works GREAT on paper.....

i dont know i'm more excited in whatever came of the mighty engine....

150 miles per gallon AND 500 horsepower? That sounds like a load of crap triple88.

triple88a 04-11-2012 12:33 AM

Well either one or the other i'm sure but still i'm sure our crappy 20% efficiency motors would benefit greatly if that efficiency was bumped up.

Per gallon of Uranium?

For the swing-piston engine. Quoted from wikipedia.
"it has been said that the swing-piston design combines all the disadvantages of the rotary with all the disadvantages of the reciprocating"

Lol

Let's assume the MYT engine triples efficiency to 60% then. Mind you, a doubling of efficiency would be world-shatteringly huge, but tripling is unto discovering an entire set of new laws of physics.

Let's assume Prius-levels of efficiency. That's 150 miles per gallon...at what, 60 horsepower? 80?

It doesn't pass the smell test, boo.

My bootcamp mailing address I presume? I'll have my bro send it to viperormiata or somebody else I TRUST and people can send their mail to him and then to me. I do not want to be fucked with me while I'm at bootcamp. Remember, I will be transformed into a mean green amphibious killing machine during my 90 days at MCRD Parris Island, so dont fuk with me!

I was supposed to ship on the 15th but due to my ankle my ship date got pushed tell the week after that or maybe later.
