Just ran across an old favorite of mine. The Vannevar Shrubbery, located inside the Vannevar Shrubbery Room:

Bonus geek points to anyone who can, without using any search engine, convincingly describe to me the significance of this along all three vectors. (One should be exceedingly obvious. The other two involve heavy geekery.)

Congratulations. You both got the Exceedingly Obvious vector correct, and proved yourselves to be of at least average intelligence.

A Vannevar Bush reference Joe? That's not something most (any?) would get on here.

That's #2 of 3 (and I am seriously impressed, assuming you didn't cheat.)

Somebody knows their early IS history well.

From whence Ted Nelson labored once, amid the ivy vines,
across the Charles River lies the answer you'll divine.
A building cold and grey, a monument to he who dared
to set his aim upon the way that data are compared.

(The room itself is the key. Notice the number on the door: 10-105½. Who on earth would build a fractional room?)

Just because of pen^2, I'll not answer this and let other people take a crack at it. (Edit) Although as I think about it, mentioning Xanadu may have tipped my hand in no small way. But whatever works.

I doubt that anyone familiar with Xanadu (in this context) without googling it would be UNfamiliar with Ted Nelson, Vannevar Busch, Alan Kay or Dynabook, and would therefor be pretty close to knowing The Third Vector.

Wonder what sort of torque this engine made to bend the rods so badly...
