These things keep popping up on my Instagram feed... I'm absolutely in love with the idea of bolt-on flares on a $400k supercar.

**** like this makes me laugh. So much entitlement and butt hurt in that post.

Off the top of my head: Dustin-server: degree in Law, practiced in Boston. Robyn-server: degree in Law, practiced in New York. Tyler-Bartender: double degrees in Biology and Chemestry. Michelle-server: two Engineering degrees. Mike-bartender: multiple degrees and two successful bars up north. etc... I get to work with some extremely intelligent and worldly people and make great money.

I agree with a lot of what he says.
In other countries a tip is given when you do a good job, not 15% always and 20%+ if they do a good job. It doesn't make any sense.
All it does is makes it so these people can get screwed out of the money they should have earned by cheap *** people, or people who are assessing their quality based on bullshit criteria

I think we are reading this differently. I'm more flustered at the idea of "serving is for the underedcuated and unskilled". I'd love to see Martha's Vineyard and Little Palm Island be staffed with high school students and this guy shows up for a nice dinner. Maybe it takes more for someone like him to understand there is a large difference between TGI-Fridays and some of the places that only hire seasoned pro's who have extensive education on food and beverage. Also, his understanding that obtaining a degree is entitlement to more money, just lol. I really hope my degrees guarantee me profit over the cost of going to school, but I'm not betting on it.

Edit: for the thread. Major throwback

Probably autocorrect on an iPhone.

Because it is. You don't need a college degree to be moderately attentive, memorize a menu and give my order to the cook (who is the real talent in the restaurant yet I don't tip them). And somehow doing that for a handful of people means you deserve $20+/hour?

I didn't get that vibe from him. What I took away from his statement was he viewed a waiter as similar to a cashier at Target: an entry level job for someone who doesn't have any other skills to offer. The idea that a person with that position expects a 15% tip for simply doing their job is ridiculous but it is standard in this country so we all have to play along. (although I did leave a sub 15% tip last week for the girl who was the worst server I've had in years)

I have a feeling the guy that posted that was talking about your average TGI Friday server and not a restaurant that represents less than 1% of the business.

I have a corporate card and travel for business fairly often. It goes without saying that I've ate at restaurants where serving was an actual skill and people deserved a decent income. That's a small fraction of the restaurant world though.
