Right now I'm on a Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA and listening to Stone Temple Pilots Unplugged. What a combo. It's almost as if I am high. This beer and this musical selection both a true masterpieces. Nothing more needs to be said.

I am a big "black and tan" fan. I deciced to make a black and tan tonight, and I've previously had Dogfish 120 minute mixed with Dogfish World Wide Stout. Tonight I wanted to do something different. I took a Dogfish 60 minute and mixed it with a Weyerbacher Old Heathen Stout. Mixing different breweries doesn't sound like a great idea, but it was totally worth it. This turned out amazing, and I recommend trying it if anybody gets the chance. It blended perfectly, but stayed genuinely dark. The stout didn't cancel the flavor of the IPA out at all. Nothing more to say, just perfection.

was drinking Gordon Biersch Marzen last night, always enjoy that.

Lately i've kind of been stuck on drinking Black Velvets - usually strongbow cider with guinness floated over top

Met a friend this morning at Tip-Top Meats for breakfast. It's an old-school German butcher shop that also has a small grocery store inside.

So... much... beeeeeeeer....

Currently kicking off the Labor Day weekend with La Fin Du Monde. God I love this beer.

thirdgen 09-02-2011 09:27 PM

I just started the weekend off by fuckin shit up like so hardcore. I don't give a fuck though, cause it's my 30th birthday weekend. I will post my beer list as soon as I drink em.

Yesterday I had a Terrapin Rye after finishing some yard work, then a SN Bigfoot (2011).

Friday night:
Mikkeller American Dream Pils, Porterhouse Red Ale on nitro, Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA, Dogfish Head Chateau Jihau, Dark Horse Plead the 5th.

The Mikkeller was good, it was something you could drink all day and be comfortable with. I think this is due to it's 4.something% ABV.

The Porterhouse Red Ale was excellent. I never had a red ale, except a Killian's Irish red, which I think it more of a red lager. The porterhouse was on nitrogen, so that really made it smooth.

Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA...holy wow. This might have just made it to the top of my IPA list.

Dogfish Head Chateau Jihau, 10% abv? very fruity, very flavorful...all in all, it was absolutely delicious.

I finished my 2 hours at the bar off with a Dark Horse Plead the 5th. I think it was 12% abv. Very stong stout, very syrupy. It didn't make the top of my stout list, but it was decent. I shouldn't have drank it though, cause the previous 4 were great selections, and the dark horse kinda made me leave thinking, "why did I get that one?" I should've ended the night with the Dogfish Head.

Who knew Bali had a microbrew? The Storm Bronze was delicious. it's an ale brewed with honey and very good.

Dirty Bastard by Founders Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan is easily one of the best that I've ever had. Give it a try if you can find it. They have several others that are very tasty as well, especially their Breakfast Stout.

Founders makes great shit. They make "Breakfast Stout" which is great, but then they also make "Kentucky Breakfast Stout" which I think is brewed in bourbon barrels or something. It's great. I have even heard of "Canadian Breakfast Stout", but I never had it.
Right now I am drinking a "Smutty Nose Pumpkin Ale". This is so far my favorite Pumpkin Ale. I've had Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale, and wasn't too impressed. This season is a great time for pumpkin ale's and October Fest beers. I have yet to try "Southern Tier Pumpking", but I've heard it's the best when it comes to pumpkin beer.

Holy shit, Hustler is drinking IPAs again!!!

It's rich in apricot flavor, floral on the nose, thick and buttery, light carbonation. It also paired really well with the "atomic" habenero-tomato crema I made.

Worst beer I have ever had... What makes it worse is that it was $10 for a bottle, and I ended up giving it away, rather than drinking it. Initial taste was decent, but aftertaste was like melted plastic. No one else who sampled it said it was that bad, I guess it just hit my pallet wrong.

Yuengling finally made an attempt at an Ocktober Fest beer. It's only available on draft. It's not as good as their seasonal Bock beer, but it's not bad. It's Nothing compared to Spaten Octoberfest, which is delicious.

thirdgen 09-25-2011 12:38 AM

This is a good time of year for beer, because this is time for the Pumpkin beers and Ocktober fests. I just drank my last Smutty Nose Pumpkin Ale, which is amazing. I have had Dogfish Pumpkin Ale, and wasn't too impressed. Don't even mention the Sam Adams junk harvest Ale or whatever it's called. If it's not a microbrewed pumpkin Ale, it's crap pumpkin Ale.
All my beer guru friends have claimed that Southern Tier Pumpking is the god of pumpkin Ale's. I have never gone wrong with a Southern Tier product, so I am dying to try this brew.
My very last beer in my whole house is Young's Double Chocolate Stout. I just cracked it open and who knows when I will buy more beer. I figured I'd save the best for last. My last beer for a while? Who knows? Perhaps I may be going a new direction in my life?

Saison Dupont is a miserable fucking beer. I've never been so let down with a bottle.

magic hat#9 an IPA? What planet are you on? at best it's a VERY SLIGHTLY hopped ale. and malty enough to mask the relatively low 20 IBU score.

...

Had a Brooklyn Oktoberfest or two last night. Tasty but slightly funky flavor.

The night before had (on draft):
1. Lost Rhino "RhinO'fest" amber lager / Marzen. light but very tasty.
2. Lost Rhino Cask Conditioned Pale Ale. subtler and sweeter than its non-cask counterpart i imagine. very tasty.
