something i realized on saturday about tasting beers... I think trying to taste more than 3 or 4 is a waste. It's hard to remain objective and even harder to remember them all after too many. they all sort of smoosh together in your brain.

I notice that happens if I drink the same kind of beer. For instance, if I drink like 4 stouts, I can't make an accurate description of the difference in flavoring. If I drink a stout and then a water, then something like an imperial IPA; my palate is cleaner and I can distinguish differences better. However, if I go from a stout to an ipa or whatever (mix types of beer) I usually get all messed up in my stomach.
My best luck is if I'm gonna drink a bunch of beers, stick to the same beer type.

I go Friday night, you gonna have to buy your ticket on site. We can meet up there for sure on friday night. The selection is soooo promising this year with an Eis scotch ale and vanilla and honey season ans so on...

bleah I have had my 3 lifetime smoked beers. If I want beer that tastes like meat, I'll use it as a marinade.

tonight's selection: Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye IPA.

I'm with you on that. Not my thing either but I wanted to try a few. Smoked beers were new to me.

Got off work 30 minutes ago, went right to the Friday night pub. Dogfish 60 minute was my first choice, then I sampled a grimbergen...tasted very similar to trois pistoles, sampled a Lancaster milk stout...very strong chocolate smell and flavor. I choose a Lancaster Baltic porter...pretty tasty. in the words of Forrest Gump: "That's all I have to say about that."

Started the night with a Blue Moon at Red Robins, then came home and had a Shiner Kosmos Reserve. Now I'm having this:

I will try it tonight, if they have a bottle of it at the Total Wine & More where I shop at.

Yesterday my girlfriend came back from San Francisco. I told her to bring me back a little something drinkable.

She brought me those three:
-Hopocalypse
-Folklore oak barrel aged Ale
-Alesmith old scotch ale in a dark plum bottle.

Read on Ratebeer that those beer are pinnacle. SOOO looking forward to taste those!!à

I can't say too much since I haven't tried Laginitas, but as far as quality micros go the Trippel from New Belgium is by far the best tasting beer that I've paid $8 per six pack for. I will be keeping an eye out for the Laginitas though to compare.

thirdgen 03-04-2012 03:23 PM

There is a place near me called Union Jack's. They serve a pile of microbrews. May 5th they are having "Cinco de Lagunitas". I will be there, and I have a feeling it's going to be awesome.
