Can anyone comment on the available turbo heat shields available for the bugeye? Like grimmspeed, cobb, perrin etc. I see fastwrx also sells the oem shield/bracket that will require trimming. Not really concerned about bling potential, just the better performing piece.
I got my AP fixed (screen damaged) and will be able to confirm what file is currently installed. I believe it is a tweaked Cobb stg 2 (modded to include intake, up pipe, exhaust). I keep asking myself if I want to try tuning it. I should just leave well enough alone but...... Since I already have the AP, what else is involved in tuning myself? (meaning can the AP be used to do custom tuning or would it be best to sell and source other software/cable)

Yes it can, but its nothing like tuning a miata or megasquirt or anything like that. Just fyi
And all of them are very similar, I kinda like the grimmspeed one, but if you don't care about bling factor, get a stocker for like 20 bux and cut it carefully to fit, it will "cover" the most of the turbine of them all (if you do it right) and look really stealthy

I'm pulling the lc1 out of the miata...maybe I shouldn't sell this one so i can really tune my wrx.
I still don't quite understand why the factory "wbo2" isn't good enough. like what was the point in the first place then?

Progress......just a normal OTS Cobb stg 2 calibration. It was an old file so I updated it now that I can see what I am doing. Took it out for a drive and was less than impressed. While looking at what brackets I need to get for the heat shield, I found the passenger side clamp at the TMIC completely loose and hanging. Well that just might be a problem. Thanks dealership for forgetting that!!! And found some take off factory heat shields for cheap at local Subaru shop.

What tires should I get for my foz? I'm looking to convert to SG suspension (firmer, better handling, slightly taller ride height). I'm thinking some general grabber at2's or something somewhat agressive offroad/rally, but I don't want to COMPLETELY kill road handling (this thing actually handles awesomely).
What do yous guys think?

I'd say BFG Rugged Terrain T/A or BFG All Terrain T/A KO depending on how much off-road capability you want.
But they don't make either of those tires in your size, but close-ish. The rugged terrain you can get in a 235/60/16 or the All Terrain T/A in 215/70/16.
I'm blindly recommending these as (afaik) I have zero experience with either of them. But BFG owns the off-road market, and for good reason. When I was in BAJA a couple years ago, all of the locals that traverse crazy dirt and rock roads every day ALL use BFGs. Like their lives depended on it...
Unfortunately, they aren't the cheapest...

Of course.
Of course.
Of course.
My car is a wagon though, and came with the EZ30 in a different trim level. I'm scared of the EZ30 or 36 because of VVT & price.
I'm close to 170k on my EJ25 and oil is disappearing at roughly 1 quart every 1000 miles. I'm thinking EG33 with the factory single EJ25 electric throttle so a cable doesn't have to be run and cruise can be kept, and all the assorted sensors grafted to the 6cyl so the 4cyl ecu thinks it's still there so no codes, and the engine itself run off a standalone.
But this is my daily driver so modifying it so drastically isn't a smart idea.

So i'm guessing a leggo wagon? What year? If you are seriously considering something like that, you should look into a WRX ecu swap. I'm not talking about the entire WRX harness either. I looked into it briefly for my forester when i was considering a 2.2turbo on it (before i found the current 2.5 in it), and it seemed fairly straight forward.

Quick Subaru question:
Is a big ol' hole in the plastic timing belt cover a big deal? My crank pulley broke, shredded my belts, and put a couple holes in my timing belt cover. I just finished replacing the timing belt and I'm putting it back together and I'm trying to decide the best (cheapest) way to fix the big slice/hole if i have to. I know on the miatas I often see the exposed cam gears, but I drive this Subaru all winter in all manner of **** and mud and salt. I'm thinking duct tape of some variety...

Drove a car on v12 evo2's. They sucked and corded pretty quickly on the rears. I'm assuming the dz102 are going to be just as good as the dz101's aka, so terrible that its surprising that dunlop hasnt been sued for gross negligence over them.
