So last night coilpack #3 stopped firing it's 75k mile Iridium plug worn to .055" gap at anything above 5 psi. Just out of the blue, I figured something like that would be more progressive. I hammered the gap down to .030 at lunch and it's mostly better, new plugs coming tomorrow. The misfire follows the coil so I may have to swap that. Anyone have one a '05 turbo subaru coilpack lying around?

a 2005 STI is such a strange handling car. i like it though.

I have $500 to spend on whatever I want on this car. Opinions? I was thinking swaybars or something simple. Front lip maybe.

Is the shifter still stock?

Meh, don't really feel like taking the cats off and dealing with that at the moment. Maybe later.

Didn't think about the shifter thing though. Probably will do that.

What do you suggest as far as tuning? I hear an accessport really isnt ideal unless someone puts a tune on it for you because the maps that are already on there arent that great.

Custom opensource tune is always my preference. I'm biased
Cobb OTS maps are ok, definitely better than stock, but definitely not as good as a proper custom tune.

When I say "better", I don't mean just power wise. I mean reliability and drivability wise too. Stock tunes are garbage, all about emissions with no regard for engine health.

Also killer b oil pickup is a really good idea. I've opened up WAY too many EJ25x to see them cracked.

When you say custom do you mean someone runs my car on a dyno and makes a tune based on my car?

Didnt you have an MS3 in your miata? Tuning the subaru with a tactrix cable is childs play compared to what you did with the miata.

If you don't have sway bars they do make a big improvement. I would keep that on your list.

However, I would agree with everyone else. Getting rid of the stock map is not a bad idea. If you don't have a good community of tuners local to you, then I would get an AP3. If you don't want an OTS map there are lots of people that also offer E-tuning services. You can start with an OTS map and then they will tweak it after you do logs.

So I replaced the bearing in my center diff housing last weekend, they didnt seem too bad but a couple were on their way out. Now my driveshaft on the other hand seems completely fuxored. Why is the best deal on a driveshaft I can find $555.32 after shipping? And no I dont want to put in an aluminum one and have to hammer the tunnel.

I have both now, and they are not even close to the same to tune. Also the subaru engine is quite a bit more spendy if something goes wrong.

Before you tell me I'm a typical nabisco sissy and everyone should tune their own cars, let me tell you that I've built more engines than you can imagine from people thinking they were a pro tuner and tuning their own car with a tactrix. These are not evo's where you simply throw a ton of boost and fuel at em and they make tons of power and hold up even under insane abuse and terrible tuning.

The price of a Subaru engine is my only deterrent. And this STI is also now my only car so I'd rather not blow it up with my dumb mistakes. Though I definitely do not expect this engine to last forever.

I got a used one on NASIOC for 100 dollars.

Actually no I didn't the ************ took my money and stopped responding to all forms of contact and if ever see this guy I'd make him swallow his teeth.

But yea maybe look for a used one?

They're still a piece of cake to tune compared to something with standalone. And most pro tooners will just throw a ton of fuel and boost at the car with like no timing and call it good, and they're not really going to blow up a stock turbo'ed ej25 that way, but there's a ton of power hiding in leaning it out and increase the spark advance (especially as the boost tapers off) and most tooners are too big of pussies to do it. There isnt much you can fuckup too badly in a subaru tune as long as you keep the stock intake and turbo.

How is working around a TON of really weird complications piece of cake? (like the afr's actually being dictated by 4-6 different tables rather than just the fuel tables, timing being dictated by like 4-8 different tables, etc etc etc)

Or do you mean startup/warmup and all the factory calibrations being set up so you don't have to sweat the details on a typical stage2 or bolt on setup?

What I hate about you is you ALWAYS talk out of your butthole. Which pro-t00ners are you talking about specifically? I've seen hundreds of maps from reputable tuners, and they are all really really smart and well thought out approaches to a tune, many of them using really interesting strategies to take advantage of some of the weird subaru-only features (like the knock advance table for example, and the per-gear timing comps in the newer roms, and the si-drive tables, etc).

Yes you absoultely will blow up a stock ej25x with a ton of boost and fuel and no timing. I've seen it happen. You will melt valves and crack exh manifolds, and other really fun and tasty treats.

There isn't a ton of power in leaning itout. AGAIN, stop talking out of your butthole. If anything, subaru tuning strategy usually relies on fat afr's, I don't think anyone is brave enough to run 12:1 on pump gas on a subaru. Usually its mid-low 11's tapering to low 11's/high 10's up top. I've seen 5hp from leaning out a wrx from 11.2 to 11.8 and the EGT's shot up drastically. 5 horsepower. And now its gong to knock any time you get a bad tank or start heat soaking badly (assuming your timing comp tables don't just yank ALLOFIT when you exceed 140* IAT). And then you get the joy of yanking the engine and replacing the pistons with the ring lands that you gaped

There absolutely is a ton of stuff you can mess up on stock turbo and intake.

STOP POSTING BS

Go post bs in other sections, I'm not gonna let you Leafy up this thread with your hypothetical garbage too.
