Don't you already have a vette?

18psi 08-17-2015 12:56 PM

I have never owned a c6 z06.

.....I must have at least one c6 z06

I must......

*edit: btw driving my buddy's Maggie-charged c5 auto this weekend re-defined for me how utterly terrible that transmission is. I mean, it was already on a whole different level of fail, but this re-defined that. Like.......blew my mind......even though we did manage to embarrass a Ferrari 360 Modena :giggle:

18psi 08-17-2015 12:59 PM

I'm trying really hard to imagine what could possibly make that tranmission worse, and I just can't. for serious

hahahaha

I don't want to say I told you so, but..................

............... actually I was kinda curious what your thoughts were on it. Looked it up, looks like it runs high 13's at 100 which is probably close to what your rex runs now.

I actually really liked it.

power delivery was very smooth and always on tap. I drove a rwd model and could easily step the rear out taking a 90° corner from a stop. The WRX still feels like it's a bit swifter but could be the turbo effect. I loved having gobs of power under 3K.

the steering is WAY too light--could drive with pinky fingers. I prefered the wrx once I got back in it to go home.

the brakes feel AMAZING--lots of inital bite and felt very confident. I commented on them so much it made me wonder if maybe mine have issues, and my wife told me to shut up about it.

The trans was very smooth. I could mash the pedal out of the blue and it had little hesitation in picking a gear and going. never had negative thoughts about the auto-trans. sport mode felt SUPER peppy, almost too much throttle response. supposed to change the shock damping too, but I couldn't really notiee.

there's lots of things that could break--everything is motorized--the steering wheel position, the sunroof shade, the headrest height/position, everything.

The seats on the coupe are sporty and felt similar to the wrx racing seats.

It was very comfortable and very quiet. you still had road feel but you didn't get so much road noise. there was no gear/trans/turbo/rattle noise whatsoever that I liked very much.

not a lot of a rear view visibility but ive been in worse (like a miata with a roll bar). plus the car has like 38 different assists from not hitting things.

I always liked that the WRX was just a car with a steering wheel, pedals, and a shifter, but I won't lie that I kinda like all the tech and doo-dads. Everything is disable-able, like the hill-assist, or retractable mirrors, or the steering wheel lifting when you turn off the car to get out easier. Even the blind spot warnings and stuff, I really like that I'm able to pick and choose.

I think I'm really going to like it for a commuter car, but it's a total different car. The wrx is very versatile and simple, and this is a lot tighter inside, not a ton of cargo area and very complex. But I really enjoyed not having to worry about shifting around and could just ride in style and comfort.

I was even more so impressed with the styling in person. I've seem them on the road, but I'd love to see one parked in my garage. I think they look REALLY hot and that's what's really important about a car.

18psi 08-17-2015 02:30 PM

Sounds pretty nice.
And now you know my weird obsession with lowend torque (and why I keep gettin corvette's lol)

the one you text me is a sexy looking little car too

Braineack 08-17-2015 02:37 PM

yeah, they look nice and I'm not really drawn to anything else at the moment.

they are lots of things about the wrx I'll miss, but i think it's about time to move on. I'm getting old and the car's just too loud/annoying. If it just had better sound dampening i probably wouldn't even be considering it. But I also want to go to an auto as well, stop and go traffic for 2 hours a day gets old, my left foot gets tired once im home.

18psi 08-17-2015 02:43 PM

can't help you about the auto thing, that's just old man syndrome
but the sound deadening: sti doesn't have the crazy gear whine. just sayin

B6Tfastiva 08-17-2015 06:29 PM

Question for you guys. 06 wrx, stage 2 cobb, catless exhaust, intake. Blowing lots of white smoke when you rev it up at idle. Not using coolant but it is going through a qt of oil in less than 1k mi. Were guessing its the turbo at this point but not sure. Anyone ever have something like this happen before?

18psi 08-17-2015 06:33 PM

what does the comp/leakdown say

B6Tfastiva 08-17-2015 06:40 PM

Havent done one yet was going to check turbo inlets/outlets for signs of oil before moving on to that.

18psi 08-17-2015 06:43 PM

that's not gonna get you very far
inlet and outlet of compressor are very often coated in oil from the pcv system and blowby
I guess pulling the dp and checking turbine outlet for oil might work but that's more work than a comp/leakdown

so it only does it at idle? not while driving?
might be something easy like stuck check valve on the crankcase tube to inlet

B6Tfastiva 08-18-2015 07:58 AM

I know we slipped my borescope in the piping last night and couldnt see anything excessive. After work today were going to do leakdown and compression check.

It belongs to a guy that works in the parts department here ill bug him for more details when he gets in.

eh. I drove the 2.0L turbo last night. so weak off the line. Not bad once at speed, but it reminded me a lot of the wrx driving around vs. the v6 which had power all the time. I was surprised too, cause it has like 230tq at 1700RPM, but it really was not that peppy from a dig.

18psi 08-18-2015 08:56 AM

2.0 Benz? Well yeah that's not enough given the weight and auto trans

TurboTim 08-18-2015 08:57 AM

Which benz is scott considering? I'm lost.
