I'm on a daily dose of Mucinex to cut down on nastiness, and then Prilosec to cut down on silent reflux.

It's been nice the last few weeks where I don't have to spend about 30 mins a day hocking up loogies and nearly choking to death from phlegm in my throat.

 

I had some sort of sinus surgery three times while I was in the Air Force. During last one, the doctor finally drilled open my sinus passages. Apparently they were really clogged up due to sinusitis. He said he really had to work his tool hard to get those passages open. Now the nasal rinse actually rinses and I only get maybe one sinus infection a year vs 4 to 6.

Logical Theory (Philosophy I took for my Philo minor) should be required for all high school students, and then again in college.

 

They've pretty much removed logic and critical thinking from most HS curriculum and aside from philosophy and applied sciences it is generally underexplored (my opinion) in college. I've had recent college grads stare at me and blink when I've used the terms "ad hominem" or "straw man", and those are the easy ones. I can tell some of them aren't getting any of this in school. It must have been a choice by high level educational personnel to omit critical thinking in favor of something of perceived greater value.

 

I graduated high school in 04. Logical reasoning outside of mathematical applications was completely absent in the curriculum.

Just dropped the wife's vehicle off at the Ford dealer, 2007 Ford Escape XLT v6 AWD/4WD. Expect a post from me around 11-12 PST where I start bitching about the cost of transmission replacement and the eventual downhill slide into a Ford/somestic hatefest.

 

Does this include the cost of a new crate transmission, or have you sourced one elsewhere?

Nothing about having the transmission in an AWD minivan replaced by the dealership sounds inexpensive or convenient.

Lol at dealership. You should be going to a trusted local general mechanic that you have developed a long term relationship with.

Google "2007 Ford Escape XLT Blinking Overdrive Light" and know my pain. I assume because this costs $2000 everywhere else in the country they will quote me in excess of $3800.

It's being "diagnosed" right now although I'm 90% sure is the failure of the second gear band. That particular configuration of Escape is known for eating transmissions between 60k and 70k. Only through careful maintenance has it managed to last 120k. Dealer is baseline, I'm a sadist and I want to know exactly how much they are going to try to **** me for the cost of a re-manufactured transmission and the labor to replace it. Will provide cost breakdown when they are done checking it.

Also, its not a minivan.

Its classified as a compact sport SUV. Or something.

With a Skyactiv-D 2.2? If we were not a single income household right now I might take you up on this. Though it might be challenging to get the Escape to Oregon to use as a trade in.

I am my trusted local mechanic, but I don't have the facilities to be able to swap a transmission in an AWD vehicle with a transverse v6. After my $1,000 throw out bearing replacement incident when I first bought my NB, I've learned to do all my own stunts.

I have a couple local shops I'll be considering for the work, but pretty much no one anywhere actually fixes transmissions anymore. They'll want me to swap the trans as a core on a rebuilt or reman from Jasper or something and then warranty it for 2 years.

Maybe its something simple like an actuator. Of course that's not how my life works, but I can dream.
