They all have Lenovo specific hardware... its not like you are going to take a screen or a keyboard out of an Acer or a Dell and it'll work

True, the internal wifi and cell cards are whitelisted in the bios by individual hardware ID. This is a regulatory issue due to IBM's international government and corporate buyer contracts. You can't buy a generic card and chuck it in there and expect it to work, its been like this going all the way back to the T3x series machines of the early 2000s. Is it a shitty thing to do? Absolutely. But its not that hard to find replacement parts. Dump the FRU number for the wifi card into google and find/buy a replacement, its not that difficult.

The T60 was the last purely IBM designed Thinkpad. The widescreen IBM T60 became the Lenovo T400 and that was a hybrid of IBM and Lenovo design work. The T410/T420 are an evolution on the T60 so there is still some IBM in the machine, I don't think they were purely Lenovo "clean slate" designs until at least the T430 series.

Plenty of sources for unlocked bios firmware if you absolutely must have an internal cell card that was not originally approved for the unit, but who buys a laptop without wifi?

I'm looking for a knife set to cut chicken breast. I hate how stake knifes have the dull part at the tip. I want a knife that's sharp the entire blade (probably 2.5-3" long blade). Any ideas? Amazon links?

I've been pleased with Victorinox's kitchen knives.

 

I think it's the rainfall totals that are going to be the bigger issue. They're saying 5-8" inches over a large area, with 8-12" possible with a direct hit. That's a lot of water to deal with in a 48 hour period.

 

Could be a cat 3 by landfall. It doesnt take a cat 3 to cause problems (sandy).

Preparations include: installed a longer pipe on our sump pump discharge, secured objects that could become airborne, getting gas for generator etc and charging batteries for flashlights.

In my experience they loose all steam once they pass the Florida Georgia border, if it's not cat3 by then, it's not building up steam after, the (useless) projections seem to agree.

I went through Carlie, Frances and Ivan all in one year back when I lived in Florida. I made rafts out of loose, found OSB and floated down my cul-de-sac and around the neighborhood. Good times.

They are comparing this one to isabel as far as the track goes. Isabel was a monster that luckily weakened before landfall. The storm surge is what caused most of our (murderland) problems when she brought all that water up the bay.

Our power grid is not designed for these storms. Not looking forward to losing power for days again.

Well i want a knife to use to cut the breast after its cooked. I like my chicken well done and dont always have time to throw in the marinade so i need something strong.


Those Victorinox knifes, are they sharp all teh way to the tip? Do they bend easy?

 

Couldn't tell you -- we don't have them. I've been very happy with the Victorinox chef's knives and the steak knives get good reviews, so that's why I mentioned them.

Damn these things are pricey lol. I guess a paring knife is best for my use.

 

I had a Victorinox paring knife for a while, sharpest god damn thing I've ever owned. I lost it when my house burned down in 08. I want another one but I've been too lazy to order one.

My older Henckels Fine Edge Pro (also lost in said fire) were super badass knives, right up there with my Globals. Unfortunately the newer FEP that were purchased to replace them are now only made as I believe a chain store exclusive and quality has suffered. The other Henckels I've handled are quite nice. The 6" Santoku from my old set is the knife I miss the most.

Jebus chris, this thing is blowing up. Cat 2 now and they are expecting to upgrade to cat 3 when the current recon gets back. Tropical to cat 3 in ~24 hours.
