One of my assignments in the AF got me a trip to KSC in 2005. We walked around/under the Discovery (in the orbiter processing facility) before the post-Columbia return to flight, toured the space station processing facility, went all over the VAB, and even got to see some of the recovered Columbia parts. Best work trip ever.

 

KSC was awesome. The tour was expensive but we had no idea we would end up this close to where the shuttles launch.

 

Yes, the one in Pensacola is in the AFB. They have A-4 blue angels on display too. In fact, they have a TON of planes crammed inside that place. When I was recently there a month ago they had added on a new auxiliary hanger.

The SR71 is sitting outside(all of the planes are) at the museum in Destin though, also a decent museum just small.

Also the San Diego USS Midway museum is awesome too, I could spend all day there.

 

Close. Even though it's called an air station, it's actually a navy base.
I graduated aircrew school in the museum.

The last time I was on the Midway, a little kid was singing into the urinal funnel on an H3 like it was a microphone.
Still makes me chuckle every time I think about it.

For the rear parts, does anyone know of some ball park estimates I 'should' be paying for them? Minus the differential & caliper.

Upper & lower control arms, the hub assembly. Single msm axle?

 

Check what the going rates on eBay are. Then offer a bit less then those because you are paying cash and picking up. I think I paid $50 shipped or so for 2 front upper control arms recently on eBay.

On the other hand, if deemed a total loss. Get an ND?

 

DO NOT SELL THAT MSM BACK TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY.

If they do declare it a total loss,find out what the buy back amount is and message me, I will make it worth your time.

I feel like a pro boxer just used my gut for practice, but I'm more proud of hobbling that last mile than the fifty I did the week before.

 

 

It wasn't a tumor.

Protip: if it feels like your intestines are filled with shards of broken glass, don't tough it out for 8 hours trying to convince yourself it'll pass. Suck it up and head to the ER. Fortunately, it hadn't burst and so they were able to do the surgery laproscopically, but the surgeon later told me that it was on the edge.

On the way out, I noticed something rather interesting.




Now, for perspective, the Lenox Hill hospital, like many of the buildings in NYC, is well over a hundred years old. So it's undergone countless renovations, and there's a lot of old technology still in place but non-functional. This particular elevator control panel was obviously no longer in service, having been replaced with a much smaller unit with a keypad and an LCD display. This, too, is common in NYC buildings with large elevator banks. (The building I work in has three different elevator control panels, the oldest of which appears to be an original 1930s era Westinghouse.)

Something looked oddly familiar about the shape behind that glass panel. So I peered in more closely.





Holy ****, a Tandy CM-5 color monitor! The type which was pretty much standard on the early 1000 series, including the 1000 HX (8086, 256k, 1 floppy drive) which was my first Intel-architecture machine. This was the monitor on which I discovered modern adventure gaming in the 1980s, and on which I played Space Quest, King's Quest, and so on for countless hours.

That was a neat little surprise, which gave me a pleasant chuckle. I appreciated this, despite the fact that chuckling is not something that you wish to do 20 hours after abdominal surgery.

No. That was in the writeup. It's extremely common in old NYC buildings to see two or three generations of elevator controllers sitting side by side, with only the newest operational.

And now, an actual German joke. (That is, a joke from Germany translated into English, not a joke in German, which would be meaningless to most people here.)

 

Silicone intake piping on the coolant system. Discuss?

I'm trying to get a sharp S bend from my water pump to the radiator but i cant find anything.

Also anyone have any aluminum/stainless steel 90` bends 1.625" diameter. I need a sharp bend with maybe 1" on each side but everything on ebay comes with 3 extra feet of piping.

For a given heat & pressure rating, silicone hose tends to be thicker and less flexible than rubber.

So if the goal is to find a material which is both costlier than conventional rubber and also more difficult to work with, silicone is tough to beat.
