This wasn't always the case.

During the early-modern polygon era, if you said to someone that you have a 3DFX video card, that meant that you possessed a PCB made by 3DFX, containing a chipset made by 3DFX. Ditto for Diamond.

Today, if you say that you have an Nvidia graphics card, that means that you have a card made by any one of a large number of companies which does not include Nvidia. Ditto AMD.

This is a peculiar business model.

It would be like saying that you drive a Ford, and that being automatically understood to mean that your car was manufactured by pretty much any company other than Ford itself.
Why's it peculiar? As already pointed out above Nvidia does in fact make graphics cards still. AMD does as well, but I think it's only firepro cards any more.

This arrangement allows the chip manufacturer to do what they do well, and allows these board assemblers to kick *** at GPUs, motherboards, and everything else.

You'll notice 3dfx isn't around any longer, they did a pretty shitty job managing all things other than making badass graphics cards...

It would be more like saying you drive a Ford and it being understood that Ford had manufactured the engine and drivetrain, but someone else had made the body, assembled it, emissions and crash-tested it, shipped it to a dealer, and was now handling the sales and warranty side of things. Except for the "calling it a Ford" part, this isn't actually unheard of -- look at a Pantera for example.

The video card manufacturers DO put their own branding on their products, it's just that the people buying the products know that the only thing that's really significant in distinguishing cards is the chipset on them, so they don't pay any attention to that branding.

So I take it you're a fan of the Toyota Elise.

Just delete them all, or forward them to pusha for him to handle.

In a situation like that, if you really want any justice, there comes a time when you gotta take the law into your own hands, literally.

It's likely the only thing that can get through to a worthless parasite.

Looks successful after finding a 5.0 stock rom, fingers crossed.

I soft bricked it the first time I attempted to flash 4.4.2

Also had a response back from the first company -- everyone I interviewed with is ready to move forward so they want expanded references and will be doing a criminal background check. The expanded references are tricky...they want 5 references including 2 managers/supervisors, but I've only had 2 jobs in the last 10 years. Only had 2 supervisors in that same timeframe. The supervisor from my last job is already listed as a reference. I can't list my current supervisor as a reference. And they want these references submitted within 24 hours.

Hmm.

That's tough. I've never ran into that before. Every place I've dealt with has understood calling your current boss isn't really an option.

Best you can do is explain that to them. If they are unreasonable about it, it just shows it's not a place you want to work anyway.

Your supervisor from your previous job + his supervisor at that job = 2 supervisors/managers.

Actually, after talking it over with a friend, I think I need to let my supervisor know anyway. He has passed job opportunities to me in the past (that I did not pursue), and he has always done right by me.

Not a chance. That guy was a crazy dude that I and my supervisor were both desperate to get away from.

Put me down as a reference, I can pretend to be a supervisor on the phone. I will say you have great newb bashing skills for those who deserve it, and the ones who ask intelligent questions get meaningful thought out responses. I can also throw in some IT buzzwords like Agile, Synergy, Github, ruby on rails, CCNA, IBM think pads, you know the works.

You realize your supervisor has an obligation to the company to let them know if there's anything he/she knows that can affect the company. I realize it's not an "oath" thing but nonetheless. Let @shuiend be your shill.
