Whenever anything like this happens, the station books a block of rooms at a nearby hotel. Staff who live outside Manhattan will stay there. Assuming the underground portions of the subway remain in operation, I'll probably go home tonight. It's only about a half-mile walk from the 86th street station to my apartment.
That picture was taken a few hours ago. You can't see the railing in the background now.

Just got back down from the roof on the 39th floor.
You cannot see the Empire State Building, which is only about ten blocks away from here, from the roof right now. I've never seen it like that before. It's not even a shadow, it's just not there at all.

With the exception of last week's bitter cold, this has been the easiest winter I can remember.
I better watch what I say though. February is coming.
Our local sherriffs office got stuck in front of our house in an expedition. The county sent a full size truck with plow. He got stuck. Then a hummer arrives and he got stuck. Finally, a normal plow truck gets all three out. I may or may not have tagged THE sherriff on fb to allow for the appropriate harrassment of the deputies involved.

You just air the tires down, compress the snow under the frame, and then air back up.
After that, just keep driving.

Not getting high centered in the first place usually helps.
I know it's easy for me to talk crap, i daily an NB all winter and haven't been stuck yet.

Normally, stopping in the middle of the intersection of 42nd st and 3rd ave to take a selfie would be suicidal. Not so tonight, with nary a car to be seen.

With no cars on the road, pedestrians were just walking on the street. I took the 4 train to 86th, then walked home right down the middle of 86th street (a major 4 lane road) all the way from Lex to 1st. Traffic lights? Crosswalk signs? Irrelevant.
