PayPal fees are 3%. If you consider 3% "fees out the ***" then I don't know what to tell you. I always get a laugh on here when I see someone post a thread in the classifieds and they say "add 3% for PayPal fees". Why the **** would the buyer add 3%? That's the price you (seller) pay for using PayPal, otherwise just say "checks/mo/cod" if its gonna put you broke.

Saturday morning I woke up to $1022 sent to my PayPal account. Yesterday I transferred some of it to my bank account and I expect it to show up sometime around the end of the week. To me, that's a pretty quick turnaround transfer wise.

I'm assuming most casual users have a personal account and that's probably why you have the holds. Having a business account eliminates the holds and limits. It also helps to add your bank account info to become ID verified as well.

Post was too epic to sit at the bottom of the last page...

You know your farts are bad when the HazMat team is called in..... (no ******* joke)

http://www.11alive.com/news/article/...Haz-Mat-Called

Ann Arbor, MI (Detroit Free Press) A patient who apparently ingested rodent poison and is emitting potentially harmful gasses has created a hazardous material situation at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.

The man is isolated in his room in the medical intensive care unit on the hospital's sixth floor, 5301 McAuley at East Huron River Drive, hospital spokeswoman Lauren Jones said this afternoon.

"The hospital is open and the situation is isolated," she said, adding that she was unable to discuss the man's condition or other specifics due to patient privacy laws. Traffic in that area is restricted to staff involved in direct patient care and Washtenaw County Hazardous Material Team workers, according to the hospital.

Joyce Williams, public affairs manager for Huron Valley Ambulance, said rescuers transported the man to the hospital either late Saturday night or early Sunday. But the hazmat team was called between 10:30 and 11 a.m. today when the man's body began creating suspicious emissions, she said.

"They were doing air purity testing," she said, adding that no further information was available.

The hospital issued a statement at about 2:30 p.m. today, dispelling rumors that the gas was potentially flammable.

"Hazmat teams ... here are monitoring the levels of gas in the room; the levels are not at explosive or flammable levels," Jones sent out in an e-mail. "The air has been tested and confirmed for low levels. Hazmat teams are continuing to monitor the levels to ensure maintaining a safe environment; the level of gas in the room is only expected to improve."

It's convienent for the buyer to use PP as well. Yes in my FS threads I say buyer pays PP fee, but I never said I only take PP. I've never had someone PM me asking if they could use a check/mo/cod.

Sure I could just add 3% to all my prices, but I like giving the people the option to 'Gift' money. Yes it's a risk for the buyer, but I know I'm not going to screw anyone, so if they want to take the risk I don't mind.

3% is kind of high when the item you want is PP only on ebay, and it's an expensive item. Of course, I guess looking at how if it were local, it would have a 10% sales tax around here, 3% isn't so bad really. Does a business account have any monthly fees? I have a verified personal account, but as much as I seem to use PP recently, I could swing a business account if it were free or cheap. I'm not irritated by most holds or transfer wait times, but when I JUST paid someone, my bank had already verified it had cleared, PP had verified it as completed, then I have to accept a refund same day, I have to wait 5 days to get my money back. That seems retarded and not really fair to me. Maybe there is a reason, but it eludes me.

n/m, I see the account is free. Signing up now.

IMO its a known fact that there's a 3% fee on the funds and a good seller never asks for the buyer to cover that cost. Personally when I see it, I'm deterred from the sale. Like you just said, add $5-$10 to the price if the 3% is too much to handle. I mean even on a $1000 transaction we're only talking $30 here.

Sending funds as a "gift" is just as bad as sending a package overseas marked as a gift. Sure if your only dealing with a handful of transactions/packages then its probably not a big deal, but PayPal is starting to crack down on people so I'd try to avoid it if you could.

Yes, either account is free to use. I have no fees associated with my PayPal account.

Unfortunately that's not the case with eBay. Some months I owe $120 in fees, other months I owe over $300-$400 in fees. Thankfully the top rated seller discount of 20% off FVF helps. Not to mention I forward all fees that I'm charged to my clients. So really I make money off the fees thanks to the discount.

I always get a laugh when people don't realize that vendors regularly pass on transactions fees (any anything else they can think of) to the customer. The only difference here is that the "vendor" (the seller) is actually being transparent about the 3% for using PayPal instead of just hiding it in the price.

Yeah, my 2 months of wild selling racked me up a smooth $150 in fees. Compared to how much I made, it wasn't so bad. Even though most of what I sold I ended up taking a bit less than I had hoped for.

lol

All I'm saying is to add your precious 3% to the sale. If you want $100 for the item and cant swing the $3 fee, list it for $103. To blatantly come out and say "add 3% to cover MY PayPal fees" is just a cheap move.

Exactly. In the long run the fees aren't anything to lose sleep over.

I really don't understand why this business with PayPal charging fees is such a mystery to everyone.

It's really no different at all from a credit card company. When you go to the store and pay for something with a credit card, the bank collects an "interchange fee", typically 2-3% of the total amount of the transaction. At the retail level, this fee is usually just absorbed by the retailer and then redistributed to all consumers in the form of increased markup. At gas stations, the fee is extremely transparent- many gas stations still have two separate sets of signage; one (usually larger) advertising the cash price, and another showing the price if you pay be credit card.

This concept of transaction fees being levied shouldn't be foreign to anyone. Can't see why it's suddenly a big deal with PayPal.

Think about it this way: every MS I sell, $15-20 of it goes directly to paypal just to provide a very simple service. While very convenient, 3% of the sale price is around 15-20% of my profits.

and since paypal has no real competition, they have regularly increased fees over time.

And now since starting this year paypal has to report to the IRS after a certain amount, I have gone to asking for money orders more and more...so I use the service less.

This may be true, but all it means is that PayPal is aligning itself with the common standards of the industry. They have costs to cover and profits to make, just like any credit card company.

I totally understand, but competition would keep fees in check.

A 3% fee seems small on paper, but in reality its closer to 20% to me. Like I said, I ask for money orders if possible now. The only thing I lose is convienece/timeliness.

and those fees cover stupid **** like the new "Bill me Later" service and really shitty mediation.

Paypal has always been profitable even when the fees were half the rate and the service was used less.

It wasn't until eBay bought out Billpay (paypal's only real competition) and THEN Paypal, back in 2002, that people really started to complain. They took over the market and everything else collapsed.

These services really go hand and hand with eBay, and sprung up because of it, and since eBay is only integrated with paypal, obviously, there's really nothing else a competitor can do.

so until like craig's lists or something somehow intergrates with google checkout or something, paypal will really be the only solution.

If I add the 3% to the price, then I am penalizing the person who wants to send a MO or check and isn't in a hurry.

I suppose I could I list a regular price with the 3% included, and then offer a "discount" for people using non-PayPal payment methods.

Ultimately, it just comes down to a buyer making an offer that I find acceptable. Why you have psychological issues with how people price their items is beyond my field of expertise.

To even out, I'd need to assemble a basic DIYPNP for $610 vs 590. A 3% increase in the purchaser's cost just to send me money so I can make my profit margin.

easier to sell the same thing for 590 vs. 610.

There's a reason that places like Best Buy push service contracts and overpriced cables and accessories so hard. Their gross margin on something like an LCD TV is less than 10%. You think Visa cuts them a break? They're paying the same 2-3% as everyone else, and like you, that's 2-3% of the whole $800. My math says that that's about 1/4 to 1/5 of their total profit.

im just sayin'.

and best buy makes more than you think on everything they sell....its only computer stuff (and maybe CDs) that they make less than 50% on. Employees get a discount of cost plus 10% on everthing...I used to get some awesome deals when I had friends that worked there.
