I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but it sounds like Formula 1 is mandating a really interesting new hybrid powertrain.

One electric motor/generator is connected to the wheels in the conventional fashion. A second motor/generator is connected to the turbo shaft to as a wastegate replacement during regen, and as an antilag system when needed.

Good Bye Engines – Hello Power Trains

Maybe those electric leafblower guys were on to something.

Yes, they mandated this YEARS ago. The factories have had to have time to develop and test. Honda will be rejoining with McLaren in 2015 as well.

Did you just start paying attention to F1? They are removing aero, restricting fuel load, etc.

I don't really pay attention to F1. I knew they had the KERS system around for some time, but the idea of manipulating energy to/from the turbo shaft was new to me.

Anybody else ever tried the Reese peanut butter and wanted to murder people when it tastes NOTHING like the peanut butter in the cups. What a dirty trick.
I think I threw out the jar i was so disappointed.

I was also disappointed in the "big cups" The peanut butter always seems to be drier, I dont even buy them.

Have you seen the large package that is 2 8oz cups? (thats right, 1 LB of reeses in 2 cups) our local walmart has them. They are excellent.

I was further disgusted by my fellow humans today. Spent today preparing a Christmas parade float for the parade earlier tonight. Apparently it's not enough anymore to just watch a parade, because there were vendor carts everywhere selling loud obnoxious horns, light sabers with blinking lights, glow sticks and necklaces, and a bunch of other useless **** for kids to bother their parents over. They carted up and down the road between the sidewalk and parade the whole time the parade was going on. Why the **** is this necessary, go peddle your shitty wares elsewhere. I guess this is just part of being a society full of gimme gimme gimme, I want that!, consumer ******. Not saying I'm not also part of the problem, but ****. Can't we just enjoy a parade and watch Santa at the end on the ladder truck. Besides, I was trying to get pictures and more than half of the time one of these ********* were in the way. I wanted to show them my Christmas spirit and rip their ******* spines out.

Yes, because it's a christmas parade, not Walmart. There's a place for everything, and a christmas parade is not the place for mass consumerism. Not that I hold christmas parades on a pedestal or anything, as I generally don't like parades and christmas holds no special meaning to me, but ****. It just completely ruined the mood and holiday spirit having goddamn vuvuzelas blown in my ear, and guys wearing glittery feathered pimp hats selling blinking lights and other useless trinkets to everyone.

On another note. Why must Tamron make such *** ugly lenses. They have plenty of lenses with great specs, but then I look at the lens and it looks like a cheaply made toy. I know looks shouldn't be that important with gear, but I just can't bring myself to have to look at that every time I use my camera.

Another gripe.

Why do I have to live here in the boonies and get such shitty internet connectivity. One day it's good at 25-30Mbps, but I check it again a few hours later and it's 2-3Mbps. The next day it might be 10-12Mbps, or it could be 18-20Mbps. Never ******* know what my internet is going to be doing. Any time I have a tech come out, it fixes the issue for about a month, then it's back to its old ways. Has to be something on their end, as I can't imagine what it would be on my end. Everything here checks out. I also see them nearly every damn day working on something on a pole somewhere in my neighborhood. The infrastructure is falling apart around here, so I guess that's why. I suppose changing something up there could possibly effect peoples connectivity elsewhere in the area? I'm not well versed in that kind of thing.

Trying to watch some youtube videos and the damn things won't even begin to buffer in HD.

You choose to live in the boonies.

I choose to live in NYC. For what it's worth, my internet connectivity does not suck. (Granted, it's not as good as it was in Silicon Valley, but such is life...)

On the other hand, consider paying >$3k / month in rent for a 1br apartment.

Perspective. It's a wonderful thing.

You seem to often have gripes.
Choose to not have gripes and things will be better.

Be happy for the things you do have. It is a decision.

Because peddling at outdoor festivals is definitely a new thing, and reserved for the USA.

It is kind of weird when you put it in those terms, but yeah- according to the 2008 UNU paper The World Distribution of Household Wealth, in the year 2000 the 50th percentile income for an adult was $2,138 ($5.86 per day), and the 90th percentile was $61,000.

This is not a perfectly fair comparison, as local costs vary greatly from place to place. Just as a 1 br apartment in Manhattan costs more than a 20 acre ranch in rural Alabama, an average home in the US or western Europe costs much more than an average home in western Africa or south-east Asia.

So, on this basis, even though Denmark (to pick a country at random) is ranked at #6 world-wide in GDP per capita according to the IMF, it falls to the #15 slot when adjusted for Purchasing Power Parity since, frankly, it costs a lot to live in Denmark as compared to most other places.

According to one calculator which I randomly stumbled upon, I am apparently in the top 0.1% of earthlings by net income, but only the top 3.6% by total wealth. Apparently I need to step up my game...

One is not capable of being happy and grateful for what they have while complaining about insignificant first world problems? Bullshit.

Another complaint, I don't like that grateful is spelled that way. Why is it not greatful? It matches the word great more than the word grate.

And on the income thing, I do find it pretty amazing how much income and cost of living varies just across this country. Just by driving 1000 miles, you can go from upper lower class to upper middle class, or from middle class to a poor bastard. A completely different discussion, but I think this country is too big and either needs to be split something like Canada, or actually allow the states to operate as they were sort of originally designed to, as mini countries. The size of this country is why **** costs so much, and why food costs so much and is so preserved and unhealthy. We grow **** 3000 miles away and ship it in, when it could be grown local. I think it's been pretty proven over the years that the big countries can't maintain themselves as long as smaller ones, and eventually implode. Then again, you have China, but that isn't necessarily an apples to apples comparison.
