Yep. Just ask Braineak and our recent quest for improving his crappy throttle response. He went from crying every day like a little girl and swearing by dbc, to being fairly happy with his dbw scoob.

i wouldnt go as far as swearing by, but i was able to get the pedal to work a little more to my liking.
from what I see it looks like he's pretty much just telling his car not to be fast anymore.
my before and after look like this:
after:
you'll notice how the target throttle position, looks inversely proportional to the requested torque table. or something like that. so basically my pedal works more like a cable driven one, where there's a direct relationship to the pdeal position and the engine load.
I've averaged this year 22mpg driving without care in stop and go traffic 50 miles a day and im running 18psi and love to gas around corners...
