I lowballed mine to just dump it. There were a bunch still listed at $375-400. So the d50 might pick up a little over it.

D50 is older, but it also lets you use the full line of Nikkor AF lenses.

EDIT:

I'd be surprised if you got much for it....I paid $500 more than a couple years ago with an 18-55mm (which I then sold, and picked up an 18-135 or whatever it is and a 50mm 1.8 prime).

Oh really? I guess if you only plan to use new lenses it's not a big deal.

I need my other hand free to gesture wildly as I beg for the models to feel the emotion.

photographers should be invisible. you need to capture the moment, not create it.

I guess it depends on whether you prefer to be a journalist or a writer. I like to be a bit of both.

my 18-55mm AF-S VR kit lens (that came with my d5000) is an incredible macro lens for being a 'kit' lens. Perfect shots at 55mm, glass about 3" away from the subject. The next best macro lens I own is the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 (Which is an $800 lens), and getting macro shots with it means full zoom at a couple meters away.

Off topic as usual, but I was trained to use stingers on a toy like that in the army. It was actually harder than the real thing.

Yeah but with the D3100 not being much more, I doubt I would get for it what I may have gotten a year ago. I'd probably take $300 for it, which I think I could maybe get. At the same time, I almost feel guilty selling it. Paid so much for it new, and I have put it to good use, it's earned its keep.
