Every week it gets better and better. Prices on guns continue to come down and I'm seeing some ridiculously low stuff. The prices on scopes have also come down considerably.

Trophy Hunter Sale - Savage Arms - Rifles - Firearms
Palmetto State is selling Savage 11/111 Trophy's in all normal calibers (comes with Nikon Prostaff) that you can get for well under $400 in your hand after rebate. For around $1000, you can have a 22-250, .270, and 7mmMag... and be set for all occasions. Entry AR15's are under $500 everywhere. Scope prices are down, reloading stuff is way down (especially bullets). I'm seeing price drops from barrel-makers back to below pre-SHE days, and everybody has everything in stock.

PLUS!!! All of the retards who bought during the panic and now need to unload are flooding the used market. I've never seen so many AR's on the various online lists. I think I'm gonna have to make a round of all the pawnshops in town when I get home in a month... see what people are unloading to get some quick cash for X-mas season.

Yeah, it's a buyers market for sure. Everything is down except 22LR. People are still stockpiling it. It's getting a little irritating trying to beat the same handful of dudes to the counter. They literally have the store's stocking schedule, and they buy every last round they can the second it's put out.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 10-01-2014 09:37 AM

I got bit by the AR bug.
Just bought a stripped Anderson lower receiver.

Lets see how cheap I can build one of these things and hopefully it wont be too big of a pile of shit when Im done.

Post pics/specs. I bought my dad a stripped Anderson lower for christmas and he's starting to buy parts but doesn't have much of a clue, like the barrel he bought isn't NJ compliant. Now we (I?) have to pin and weld the thingie at the end that he had to have because it looks cool.

Willing to bet they are not stocking, but immediately resellling on the net.:hustler:

I would imagine you will be hard pressed to get it under $500 after shipping, but it should be a fun and educational project regardless. My only warnings having done this within the last couple years are:

1) Don't get tooooo cheap. I bought the cheapest no-name LPK on the planet and it came with the shittiest trigger I've ever experienced. Everything else in the LPK was fine though.

2) Borrow AR assembly tools if you can, especially if you are building an upper from parts.

Make it light enough that you can lift it with the drone, post pics on the internet and watch people loose their goddamn minds

I went through this last year and ended up building a no-too-shitty AR for $380 (not including optics). But I was also an uber jew, bartering PS4s while they were hot, getting a stripped lower as a gift, etc.

Honestly it would be hard to beat the the new Ruger AR-556 for the money:
Ruger announcing AR-556 and Collector's Series 10/22
MSRP is $749, but it looks like street price will be just under $600, includes folding sights and a pmag.

AR Pistol candidate?

samnavy 10-01-2014 03:25 PM

I really like the look of the FFB on that Ruger... if they can get it down in the low $600 range, they'll have winner.

For my money, I don't think I'll ever buy another production AR. I don't mind spending a little extra money to build a gun that is exactly what I want.

Since 95% of what counts most is in the trigger and the barrel, those are the pieces you don't want to skimp on. Nobody should be surprised when they go with an $80 barrel, no-name LPK, and Wolf Steel and wonder why they can't do any better than 5" groups at 100yds. On the other hand, there's no reason to spend $400 on a DD/Noveske+ Gieselle if you're just gonna grab whatever plinking ammo is handy at Walmart either.

$200 BHW/Rainier match Wylde barrel
$130 RRA Match trigger LPK
$100 PSA blem lower and upper
$20 upper parts kit
$50 anybody's 6-pos stock kit
$100 anybodys's BCG
$100 decent free-float tube, gas tube, gas block.

I don't know anybody who makes a $700 gun that can handle my middrift. You can easily knock off another $50 with a few used items and an A2 foreend setup.

The time to stock up on parts is MEOW!!! I think I got a mailer last week that Natchezz is selling Anderson lowers for like $39 ea w/free shipping if you buy 5. WTF? If I wasn't on cruise right now...

Thought I was done building .223\556 ARs, but at that price...

No free shipping, but you could buy them individually. Here's to hoping $40 lowers will become the new normal. As luck would have it, FFL just called, my lowers are in!

I was certain my next AR build was going to be a .308 for hog hunting, but now I have to do something with these...

That alloy .38spl ultralight is a very good choice for lightweight reliable carry. It is cheap and has enough punch to be useful. Props.

I like it. My personal preference would be for a slim flashlight instead of a firesteel though.

Not sure I would trust those condoms, they look like they've been there a while

Full_Tilt_Boogie 10-02-2014 12:17 PM

Who needs condoms when you have a knife and a gun?

I will be sure to post progress as I go. Ive been looking for a project, so hopefully I will find the creativity and motivation to do some customization.

I think I will defitely have to pick up a punch set and one of those buffer tube wrench things. Im not sure if I will need much else if I buy a complete upper.
As for the drone.... :bowrofl:
I cant think of a faster way to get banned from my local range. They get mad if you dont wait 2 seconds between shots.

I dont think Ill be able to do it that cheap, but Im going to try.
Part of me is tempted to just drop 500 on a Del-Ton "rifle kit" and call it a day, but I may try to take it slow and find deals.
It seems like all the little parts add up though, so it may be hard to beat the rifle kit price.

True, but* it will be hard to get everything you want in a kit, and you end up paying the extra money in the end anyway. Keep a lookout on armslist.com for local parts. There are tons of doofuses unloading ARs and parts right now.

Just my upbringing... Dad said, "a man's wallet should be made of leather".

Totally optional to have "Bad Mutha Fucka" written on it.
