It's not really a debate, I was just curious seeing as I live in a country where it's very hard to get hold of a gun, what it's like living in a country where it's alot easier. But I see you're on you rags... Take care.

Well he actually moved back to USA and left his wife and 2 year old here, simply becasue he missed going shooting with his friends. He's dead now though, diabetes will do that.

You're welcome!

(For future reference, next time don't start with the comment about being scared. Gives away the game)

Okay, sorry. To answer your question:

It is awesome.

Strike Australia off my list of places to live one day.

Sorry to break this to you, but I don't own any "weapons." If you carry a Bic Ball Point pen or #2 Lead Pencil in your pocket with intention on stabbing someone in the neck, that is a weapon. Police ask "Do you have any weapons on you?" "No. I do however have a lockback pocket knife and a small caliber pistol on me, Neither of which are weapons btw."

Merriam Webster dictionary definition:

weap·on   [wep-uhn] Show IPA
noun
1. any instrument or device for use in attack or defense in combat, fighting, or war, as a sword, rifle, or cannon.
2. anything used against an opponent, adversary, or victim: the deadly weapon of satire.

Funny, because while I could use all my firearms, knives, pens, pencils, bricks, screwdrivers, toothbrushes, or car as a "weapon" however they are NOT weapons until USED AS SUCH.

How do I feel about owning such firearms? Its fan Fucking Tastic. Try and take them from me and they will BECOME weapons. Try to make me a victim of your criminal intentions and they'll become weapons. Not a minute before.

Yeah that make sense, they really got tough on guns here after the Port Arthur massacre back in 1996. All people with registered semi/ full auto guns, and pump action shotguns had to hand them in to their local police station for destruction.

Now we just get stabbings here instead of shootings, so now when you buy any knife other than a cooking knife they take down you name/address and register you on a list. The police even do random pocket searches of people, if you are found carrying a knife or any kind you face some pretty huge fines. Some girl got done by the cops here on the way to work a couple months back, she worked at a local supermarket and had a box cutter in her pocket. She recieved some huge fine, and had to goto court. Crazy stuff...

It's a shame because I wouldn't mind getting into target shooting, but to do so requires so much paperwork and police checks it's just not worth it.

gearhead_318 09-27-2011 11:08 PM

If the police/gov tried that here people (myself included) would flip there shit. Not to mention that would be political suicide for the person responsible for such a law.

True story.

FBI Statistics, despite what some leftist anti-gun politicians would lead you to believe reflect violent crimes have actually decreased in areas with high number of concealed carry permits issued.

gearhead_318 09-28-2011 02:52 AM

Fun fact:
Two murders have been committed in the US with legally owned automatic weapons since 1980 something, both occurred in the state of Ohio and one was committed by a police officer.
Don't remember where I read that, might have been this thread..

elesjuan 09-28-2011 03:09 AM

Here, I even found some data to backup my claims.. You'll love this, its coming from 'the horses mouth' so to speak... Anti-gun libs! They're proving MY point:

Handguns

The two 1997 Firearms (Amendment) Acts resulted in the prohibition of the vast majority of handguns in Great Britain. As a result of the prohibition and the surrender exercise, more than 162,000 handguns were handed in to local police forces.

Handgun Surrender and Compensation. Report by the Comptroller and Auditor General NAO, 1999
This establishes in 1997 possession of handguns was banned, and appears you could turn them into police and be compensated for them. Probably for $0.02 on the dollar of their actual value, If that.

With that information in mind, please check out this table:

http://jugrnot.com/england-gun-control.jpg

In red you have 1992 to 1997, after 1997 I hilighted in green to show gun related post ban homicides. United Kingdom has approximately 61 million residents where the United States has around 312 million.

The majority of gun-related deaths in the United States are suicides,[5] with 17,352 (55.6%) of the total 31,224 firearm-related deaths in 2007 due to suicide, while 12,632 (40.5%) were homicide deaths.[6]

61,000,000:78 (2004/2005 murder rate, current day population)
213,000,000:12632(2007 murder rate, current day population)

I'll give England this, even their total "criminal damage" is lower than our murder rate, we still have 3.5 times more population (probably higher than that with 'undocumented residents' not included..) Fact of the matter is, this proves by their own numbers that banning civilian possession of handguns does NOT directly correspond the number of homicides with handguns.

I don't remember the specifics aside there were 2, one was a police officer, and its factual. I dug that data off the FBI's website and posted a few pages back I think..

I don't see any scary, military-styled assault weapons with barrels shrouds or things that go up.

no one who spends $25k on a registered M16 AND goes through the never-ending hoops is going to go on a rampage.

Hanguns are banned everywhere in the UK but Northern Ireland, which is shit anyway.

o lee chit!

If they do the opposite drill (with about 30,000 helium balloons tethered to each weapon) and can still hit COM, I'll be scared shitless. That's some work to have trigger control there!

WHAT?! YOUR RIFLE FEELS HEAVY PRIVATE!?! LET ME MAKE IT LIGHTER FOR YOU
