next round of Tx miata challenge is 3wks. away! registration is open for the nasa tx event at msr cresson. i hope to see the mod and especially unlimited class cars beating the spec miata record at this track. there's a whole bunch of track miata drivers up in the dallas area so i expect them to be there. hope i can learn something from those guys as i've only been to that track once early last year.

here's the registration and track links:

https://www.nasaproracing.com/event

Motorsport Ranch 1.7 Mile Road Course

remember, you must register 7 days before the event or it's $50 more online or at the track on the day of the event.

also, the miata challenge is sat. march 13th only, but the nasa event is a 2 day event, so if your traveling a long distance, (like i am) make a weekend of it and get an extra day of seat time. it might pay off since there may be a day added to the challenge schedule at the end of the year at this track! hopefully. see you guys at the track!

yeah, that's one thing i didn't wanna do was overload you guys with too many events on the schedule. and it's ONLY a month and a half between msr-h and msr-c! lol..... it only seems quick to you because you threw in another event in between. but yeah, most events are atleast one month apart to keep your work and wallets happy.

i wanna see some nc's and atleast one lsx swapped miata out there

oh, and just a reminder, msr-c is the home track to a potential challenge sponsor. you can bet that they will be watching. when i last spoke to them, it was decided that we would wait until after the second event to make sure that there would be enough interest to justify their participation. this could mean contingency prizes per event, and really awesome season championship prizes! like something really valuable, that could potentially make you way faster! so please show your support by actually coming out and running your car and having a blast.

HA! I was just thinking the same thing. It's part of race prepping anything. Same deal with bikes, there is never enough time to get it all done. I may have to just show up with no aero package and no brake ducting for this event which might make for a good before/after comparison actually.

Racing in CMRA also averages about one event a month so I'm used to it and I'm just whining needlessly.

Good news:
The LS1 track Miata drove under its own power today. Whoohoo!
Bad news:
Even though the ride height is set a tad low, like maybe only 1/4" low, I only have 2" of chassis ground clearance in the back (diff housing) and less than 2" in the front (k-member). This is with Tein SS. That is way too little IMO. I am at risk of scraping the chassis and unloading the suspension in the middle of a corner. No thanks. And this is with no aero in place yet. The problem is not so much the Tein SS, but the fact that the k-member and diff are quite a bit lower than stock as it is.

I'll be looking into suspension options this week. Off the top of my head...
1. A simple option is to put some very stiff springs in it, raise the preload, and hope I do not get spring lock. Even just slightly too much preload will cause spring lock. I saw this on my NB with the Tein Basics, very similar to the SS.
2. An expensive option is to get some ride height adjustable shocks like Tein Flex. Cha-ching...
3. I wonder if longer, stiffer springs would work? Hmmm...

I'm going to start a new discussion on this so this does not turn into a thread jack.

Fer sure. If I can get this suspension thing worked out, I hope to do MSR without aero and TWS with. I was working on the wing mounts last night so I may even have the aero ready for MSR but I am not counting on it.

I really want to have the aero for TWS Turn 1. I have been through that turn a gazillion times CCW and it still freaks me out whenever I go through it like a man. It would be nice in Turn 7 too.

Turn 1 at TWS usually determines the length of your *****.

turn 1 was/is scary no matter what if you wait to brake once your on the infield. (and f/i or have alot of power) but i noticed the biggest difference on turns 5, 6, and 12. they're high speed and flat so i picked up a few mph there. also because 5 and 6 were faster, i was at a higher mph going into turn 7, which was faster, but uneventful. never have found the limit there. the banking and hill keep the car planted so it just feels like i can't get going fast enough to upset the car. the aero also made a big difference going into 14 CW. trailbraking off the banking, the car felt safe and planted. and turn 7 (going downhill/CW) is nerve racking because the track goes off camber as you trackout and wants to pitch you off the track. i think i would have gone off a couple times if it wasn't for the aero. i don't even have a good wing, it's a ebay apr copy, but i used yarn strings and a gopro cam to set it where it's most effective. i can't wait to go back there with my new susp. setup.

lol, bond, if that was true, i'd be making movies right now.

Yes I love turn 7 going CCW. Lots of positive camber plus uphill. I have not found the limit there either but a buddy of mine did in a bike race. He stayed on the track but had a big old brown twinkie in his pants afterwards.

Yeah I can see aero helping in turn 12 too (second left after the carousel going CCW). Flat and fast.

I know another really fast bike racer that got t-boned in that corner during an endurance race by another rider that was making a stupid pass on the inside. He got knocked off the track. He walked away but could have easily been seriously hurt or killed. There is a big drop-off in the run off area on the outside of that turn. He said he was airborne for a bit and narrowly missed a tree. He was absolutely beside himself with anger afterwards when I talked to him in the pits, rightly so. It sucks because they were leading their class when it happened and had to drop out of the race due to too much bike damage.

Actually, the formula is:

(Top speed before Turn 1) plus (How late you brake) equals (Mass of your *****)

Welcome to my world for the next few races. Hopefully by the April 24th race my engine/exhaust will be done, but who knows.
