DB9 Serial no longer works to connect to MS3, USB works fine.
Ever since I put the MS3 back in the car yesterday I have been unable to connect via the USB to DB9 serial cable. I installed the driver for the USB-in port on the MS3 daughtercard and was able to connect with that today. USB-DB9 cable shows up in windows and on Mac fine in hardware page, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, still doesn't work.
This is not a troubleshoot my megasquirt thread, I can do searches for that. I just wonder what is the likelihood that I fried the serial connector somehow, and what would it take to do that? I did a quick google search before going to bed last night and it mentioned something about U6 (or was it U5?) being the chip that controls old style serial connections. IF the U6,5 whatever is dead, is this something I can just solder over or would I have to reflash my MS3?
I just want to know how likely it is that I am screwed, and how badly if that.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reassurance. Now that I am using USB I don't really even need the serial except for perhaps a Bluetooth adapter at some point.
It's nice to know that I won't be tearing it apart for that problem. Now I just have to grow some ***** and build the alternator control circuit and I will be about as complete as I had ever planned.
