Man, I'm super lost...

So basically,

-either get the xcode1.5 on disc and install (meaning I have to borrow/buy from an individual as they dont sell them in store anymore, and you cant dloand)

-upgrade to Tiger, again via someone's discs which have to be for PPC mac no Intel...and again, cant download or buy in store...

-or try this fink program, which if you guys had a very hard time I' prob wont get far at all...

Is this it???

Solo--stay tuned, but i'm gonna go thru every last resort with this b4 giving it up

****I thought VPC, bootcamp, emulator, etc etc etc would not work on the PPC mac??

Dude, do you want me to get you the last version of whatever Mac OS they offered for PPC?

Then just get megatunix working.

Umm, sure--can you?

You thinking that installing the OS should fix everything? I think I read/understood that doing the OSX install, you already are installing Xcode & X11....is this correct?

If thats the case then all I have to do is reinstall Darwinports and start installing Megatunix no?

VPC WILL WORK because it is an emulator NOT a virtualization system.

Bootcamp runs windows natively. VMWare is a virtualizer, as Crossover, cider, and parallels. But these REQUIRE an intel processor

im not sure on how the tiger CD's are, but if you just install tiger, you can actually just use the Xcode 2.5 you already downloaded if you dont install xcode with the install CDs.

panthers CDs have a separate CD for Xcode.

on the flipside:

ive been trying to get my mac to run megatunix, and its making me fish through the damn library folders again. i followed the instructions per say on that thread, but it still wont pull through. keep in mind, im doing this on 10.5, so things could have changed. It wont go through with the installation and i get theres various errors when trying the "make" command:

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [gaugedesigner] Error 1
make[1]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1

sucks doesnt it? i have ALL the libraries that im supposed to have. no errors in configuration, but when trying to make, it craps out.

Well this clears it up a bit...

So VPC will work, but its the one you have to pay $130 for, plus get windows in it... I already got the Windows 98 lite, so that may be the way...Just sucks to shell out $130 for one thing, and on top of that imagine if for some reason it doesnt work!

But then with VPC I can the MegaTUNE software...hmm

ONTH, installing Tiger should give me all the other programs I need...but now your unable to complete the MegaTUNIX install....I know urs is on 10.5, but still concerned that it wont work for you....

---My MS is here!!! I have my bro's pc laptop to try and start the car at least...just cant use it for tuning...

I'm running OS X 10.3.9 also (Panther).

Anyone know a good (cheap) source for OS X 10.4 (Tiger)?

This thread makes me think I don't even want to TRY Megatunix! Hopefully the windows PC requirements are minimal so I can use one of the old junky laptops I'd written off as obsolete!

Obsolete laptops are perfect for running megatune. It's nice to have a dedicated laptop to keep in the car.

Ok, question...
I was reading the VPC link that Cj put in like the 1st pg of this thread...

Do I still need to get WINDOWS installed under VPC??
Or is it somekind of program that allows me to run windows programs without windows??

I know this may sound dumb (even to me as I write it), but the description on that site threw me off...

From the site:
Product Description:
Virtual PC for Mac lets you run Microsoft Windows applications, access Windows networks, use Windows-only Internet applications, and share files with Windows-based colleagues. Virtual PC for Mac employs standard Mac controls and commands. It gives you the flexibility to work across platforms--side by side--without changing your Mac OS, software or files. Say goodbye to compatibility issues. Virtual PC for Mac lets you have the best of both worlds.

Just wondering so I know if I'll still need to address getting windows in there, or if this will allow me to basically install a windows app on Mac OS...

Edit: actual link as well

Funny how when you add the name "Microsoft" in front of the product, it increases the pruducts value by almost 25%!!! (Connectix = $99, Msft = $129)

Anybody in the market for "Microsoft Spring Water"?? Only $4.50 a bottle?

Dude. Holy ****. You post so much it confuses the **** out of people. One question at a time.

It is not this complicated. You have two paths.

A. You get the latest Mac OS, install required dependencies and run MegaTunix.

B. You get the latest Mac OS, get Virtual PC for PPC, and a image of XP and install Megatune.

The only two things you need to learn how to do is burn CD's on a mac, and how to use an FTP program.

All of this I can help you do, you just need to calm the hell down and stop complicating things.

I know you are excited, I know you are worried, you got a lot of money invested and right now you got no result out of it. I have been there and I know what you are going through but if you want this to come to a happy ending you gotta calm the hell down.

I hea rya, I do tend to write alot, but didnt think it was that confusing...sorry guys..

Ok deep breathe...

Thing is it seems everytime I think I understand the next step/solution, another thing i dont know pops up...

I thought if I went the VPC route, I could run it fine on my current OSX...?
So I can not do anything with my current OSX then??

Ps--thanks again for all the help...seriously

I have no idea what OS X version you are running or if your version support VPC. What you should do is go find the VPC website and see what versions it runs on.

My biggest concern is the USB-Serial adapter not wanting to work with the virtualized windows. Which is why I think getting megatunix to work would be more fruitful.

I have Os X 10.3.9...
The link for VPC that I posted above shows it runs on 10.3 & 10.4

The serial driver is another thing...
As I mentioned the disc it came with said OSX & Windows...
Also I have a Serial/USB adapter that I can connect to MS, making it USB/USB...also came with disc that said Win/OSX

However, I dont know if either of those are a solution...From how i understood your concern, it sounded like the issue may be running it thru a "virtual" enviroment..as opposed to straight off the mac like normal..?

Lol...the saga continues!!

This is great, but that walkthru the guy made was because he was trying to get it to work on 10.5 (like u)...I'm 10.3.9, so I think the original walkthru on the 1st pg still applies for me no?

Which means we're still on the VPC solution?
Is everyone still on the same pg?

Just wanna make sure I'm understanding everything as it's happening...thanks!

honestly, i think the OS really has nothing to do with this except the libraries being a newer version. The libraries need to be a certain version in order for megatunix to work, i dont think its OS dependent though.

if you were to follow the installation procedure (PROVIDING you install Xcode) the process should work just the same way.

ok so let's update...

Looking like I can either
1-get Xcode 1.5 from someone, and continue with the install process as described in that thread/link

2-get VPC...and from what it sounds like there's still more steps after that..

The VPC link said it'd work on OSx 10.3 & 10.4...so I'm a little confused as to y I'd have to upgrade to OSX to go that route...

The Xcode 1.5 will work with OSx 10.3

So DO I need to upgrade to 10.4 or no??

---any leads on xcode 1.5??
