Which would you pick and why?

I lean towards the S3 because I THINK the GT2860RS is the best turbo for what I want power wise.

 

I heard begi has a substantial lead time on their products these days, take that into consideration. Also, whats stopping you from requesting the same turbo from FM?

 

Are these the only two choices no matter what?

I don't think they can physically do it. Maybe the downpipe design is different and they don't have ones made for the 2860?

 

Anything that is a kit for a Mazdaspeed, or that I can piece one together fairly quickly that my mechanic can install. No fabrication, everything must be pre-made.

FM can substitute a 2860 into their kits. They just don't publicly offer it because after testing they have found it not to be that great.


How much power are you going for? If you do not have a built motor and are going with a log manifold then I would highly suggest going with a 2560 instead of the 2860. If you have a built motor then I would suggest a 2871 over the 2860. Really what I am trying to say is that the 2860 is just not a great turbo for the miata.

 

Which makes no sense to me because everyone here likes it.

I did get in touch with ARTech so well see what happens there.

 

I think it is a decent turbo, I just do not think it is great for the miata. I think either a 2560 for a non built motor, or a 2871/efr for a built motor.

If you are going with a built bottom end then I would have to seriously recommend a 2871 over the 2860. Or if you can wait, I would say wait until the TSE kit is released, as a built motor with the EFR 6268 or whatever is amazing.

 

That EFR does look nice, but what manifold and downpipe would I use (that I can buy from a vendor here or whatever) to get it all to bolt up easy? And oil and coolant lines.

 

Check out this there here for info on the new TSE kit. It will be a full kit based around the new EFR turbos. The only thing is that there still a wait on them to be released.

 

This is all because you're a woman who never tracks the turbo Miata. The 200rpm earlier 14psi target is nice. For a 210-275whp Miata, the GT2860rs is the turbo to buy for a track car.

I would also wait for TSE.

I was about to say: the tater is a great little turbo, nothing wrong with it.

obviously if you want top of the line though EFR is the way to go. with a mani/dp from abe or TSE once they actually start selling them

 

Can we talk about some of the reliability issues around the EFR turbos? Or were there significant changes made to prevent the faliures?

 

The only problem was a manufacturing issue that was corrected after the first batch. It was not a design flaw. The third party manufacturer did not follow specs and the issue has since been corrected.

 

I make 270 at 14psi on a 2560, you still haven't told us what your power goals were...
