So why do FM dyno plots show it being about the same as their offerings? Also, my goal is 300whp. If I can happen to make that on lower boost and keep the entire engine and system happy I guess that makes things better.

Protip: never, EVER, believe the FM bullshit dyno. I love those folks to death, but holy cow is that thing optimistic. Also probably from the high elevation, the "spool" illustrated on their dyno plots is beyond pathetic. They show a 2860rs spooling almost at 4500 and torque peak at 5, when just about everyone else in the country has theirs hitting the same figures a full 1k rpm sooner....though the slow spool can also be attributed to the shitty design of their log manifold as well.

you'll be hard pressed to find a garrett that you could slap on Soviet's setup that would perform up-to-par, let alone at a 10 stroke handicap.

Am I wrong or right in saying that a 6258 paired with ARtech equal length is one of the better combos available? I contacted Tim at AbsurdFlow but he's not making stuff for a while, shame cause hes local to me too. Also I was going to keep my CXRacing FMIC, its a few years old but works. 27.5 x 5.5 x 2.5. Ins and outs are already 2.5" which I seem to remember reading here is optimal for all the fmic piping at the 300whp power level too. That or bump up to a Precision 350hp? 600hp?

yes the artech tubi + efr is going to be lightyears better than any shitty fm log setup with a garrett turbo

the precision core will be much better than the ebay core.

2.5 ic piping is way too big for 300hp, but won't really hurt anything.

Considering I went with the Wiseco 83.5mm pistons that they rate at being "8.5-8.8 CR", I guess I can expect slightly slower spool with this?

For reference, Soviet (who is the owner of the car that made that sick dyno plot) has 9:1 pistons. I would think the spool differences between ~8.6:1 and 9:1 to be almost negligible.

Am I correct in saying that running lower compression can make more power on the BP with a proper tune?

on pump gas you can run more boost and more timing with lower comp

The improvement in spool you can get from tuning electronic boost control, timing in off-boost and intake camshaft advance/retard is much more than the difference in compression ratio

Good because I get 93 octane around here as well and elevation is fairly low too, like 200 feet above across the whole city.

I got all squared away with ECU and injectors, back and forth between a Walbro255 or Deatchworks 300, either should suffice but might go Walbro and re-use my 190lph install kit. Will a Precision 600HP fmic fit MSM facia without major trimming of bumpers or supports? Another buddy is telling me to go with Mishimoto FMIC, anyone run these?

I run a mishimoto and it is just another ebay intercooler. Mishimoto might be slightly better from a quality control standpoint but in essence there is no difference.

I always make sure to get my intercoolers with a warranty because sometimes the bearings leak blinker fluid and the gyro-stabilizers go out of sync when the moons in orbit with Saturn.

I'm sure the warranty is only good if the intercooler is tuned properly too

The only thing good about a flyin miata kit is that they will hold your hand and you are 100% guaranteed to have a turbo car.

Everything else is worse and more expensive than what you can do yourself.

edit: and Begi is the worst of everything. Bad support, bad parts, bad instructions, high prices.

Fun discussion to read, i lol'd.

Warranty on an all-aluminum intercooler is pointless, particularly from an eBay company. Like you'd ever get them to honor the warranty... The Audi intercooler probably gave out because it has plastic end caps which can get brittle. Dumb idea, those.

I'd say stick with CXracing intercooler or go with a high-end one. I'm of the opinion that the eBay intercoolers are just fine, and that one sounds plenty big for your power levels. Watch IATs and see how it goes. You can always upgrade the intercooler later.
