https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...c9e53b23ef.jpgProbably something like this. Should be easy to do and not even need to take apart to do. Haven't decided if it thou;ld be bolted in or welded.

farpolemiddle 03-11-2017 09:37 PM

So I have a lot of it together but I am still worried about the hood just being pinned behind the headlights. I was thinking to strap the hood to the front bumper sort of like VW baja bug kits or jeeps but I think it may look like shit. I have a few of these stainless straps that are lockable. They are adjustable and pretty strong. I would remove the red. I was also thinking of going old school with these leather deals for $50. Opinions? My wife thinks either will look ghetto.https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...44437badb.jpeghttps://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...c281c083fa.jpg

Your wife is right. :D

farpolemiddle 03-11-2017 09:43 PM

lesser of two evils? I don't want a floppy dildo hood.

aidandj 03-11-2017 09:44 PM

Run it up to speed with just the pins behind the headlights and see how it goes.

icantlearn 03-12-2017 04:28 AM

I concur ^

curly 03-12-2017 09:59 PM

You'll wanna pin it between the head lights, not behind. It'll flop around like crazy at speed. Martin had to tape Laz's hood every track day because of the pin location.

farpolemiddle 03-12-2017 10:36 PM

There is nothing to pin it to anymore. Thats why I was thinking latches.

miata2fast 03-12-2017 11:33 PM

The inconvenience of not fixing it will eventually become more than the inconvenience of fixing it right.

Onyxyth 03-12-2017 11:34 PM

I can't help but think the easiest solution is to just put a rad support back in.

aidandj 03-12-2017 11:40 PM

You only need the outer parts of the rad support

Yeah I don't have that anymore. I think I have a solution figured out. I can pin it to the bumper support.

I have to disagree so far. Other than this hood issue this has been a crazy easy fix so far. Like maybe 3 of 4 hours of pulling off old stuff and bolting on new. I also have a bit of weight saving if that matters to anyone and plenty of room to mount a much bigger intercooler and oil cooler. I wouldn't have done this if not crashed of course. Even this hood issue is a matter of adding a few more push locks or a latch system.

Leafy 03-13-2017 06:50 PM

IDK man, just run some angle steel across there or something to bolt the hood pins to.

How much weight did you save there?
We are looking for weight savings on the front end.

Nice to see the car coming back together!

Got it back together. Amazon screwed me out of a week on one of the quick-locks. I used two 1.5s behind the headlights and the 1.25s designed for carb air filters in between the headlights since they had longer studs. Also added the spring kit. Fits pretty tight now. I can probably play with the gaps but I don't care. Need to redo the intercooler mount that is ghetto strapped in and need to work on the front nose plate indents.

Looks good! From that pic you can't even tell there is an issue, other than the silver hood pimples. Good show :bigtu:

miata2fast 03-22-2017 07:21 PM

Glad to see it all worked out and you are back on the road.

farpolemiddle 03-22-2017 10:32 PM

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...6f9aba36d0.jpgWhoops. Didn't cut enough out of the hood. Made different turbo noises.

icantlearn 03-22-2017 11:09 PM

must of sounded really cool. Stutututu

Edit: thats the watergate not BOV. derp.

farpolemiddle 05-17-2017 11:37 PM

Felt this was a better use of this space. I hated it behind the seat. I need to secure the wiring a little better and square away a removable/hinge cover. Worth the 3 hours of work.

farpolemiddle 05-21-2017 12:09 AM

So I pulled the Airbag computer and now the light is on full time. How can I trick it off? I can't just pull the bulb because my gauge hood is on it's last lag. If I pull it the last glued on clip will put it out of the fight.

18psi 05-21-2017 12:51 AM

ignore it? lol

farpolemiddle 05-21-2017 03:36 AM

Tape...

x_25 05-22-2017 09:14 AM

Find somewhere you can access the wires going to the bulb (not sure if possible) and pump wall voltage into it. That should knock it out.

Are you on stock mounts? No ps right? Also, have you had any issues with turbo hitting chassis? Really wanna pick up that gates hose for the lower rad.. that's slick

farpolemiddle 07-03-2017 08:03 PM

Yes. Yes. A little but hammer fixed. You can not just put a hose on. You have to modify the outlet.

Nice thanks

i def can see mine will need the hammer near the turbo outlet - im just gonna hammer it all in now that you said that, pretty sure i had some rubbing there before.

I had to do it for my downpipe too.,
