BFG R1 VS Hoosier R7
Does anyone have any data on the current model BFG R1 vs the Hoosier R6, SM6, R7 or SM7?
I will be testing the R7 vs the R1 back to back in the coming months. Size: 205/50/15 on 15x9's

I haven't run the R1 since spring 2013, with a brand new set that I ordered which was date stamped as manufactured in 2011...gave me old stock! Has the compound changed since then?
Regardless, I ran both the R1 and the A6 that weekend. I ran a nominally better time on Friday with the R1 than I did on Sat/Sun with the A6. But, it was a good 15 degrees cooler out on Friday, if I recall.
I remember the R1 feeling more like a real race tire than the Hoosier. Less compliance, and had to drive them more precisely. Also interesting to note that I had a significantly higher top speed with the R1, so perhaps it had less rolling resistance?

Thats not surprising. The R1S seem to be in between the A6 and R6 for how much heat they need to get optimal grip on the auto-x. The R1 is the even higher temperature compound.
I would have bought another set and continued testing the R1 as it showed potential. But BFG doesn't offer any contingency for NASA Time Trials, only W2W. So, frankly, I wasn't interested. Somebody at BFG needs to get their head on straight and realize all the business they are losing. I am far from the only person who won't buy their tires for this reason...
I've talked to multiple BFG engineers and commercial people about this...I've always gotten the same/similar response. "We're looking into it"... They're aware of the market for 225/45 but apparently the numbers haven't made sense for them.
My understanding is they don't have a mold for the R1 in that size and that can't adopt the 205 mold to work. Paying for a new mold makes the business case a lot more difficult. Last time I asked about this was either 2012 or 2013 so who knows what's changed between then and now...

I've read from racers that the 205 A6 is faster on a 9" wheel vs an 8, so assume a 225 is better on a 10 than 9. Does that mean the 245 is slower on a 10 than the 225? Savington says the R1S is faster than A6 Hoosier, but again, what about 225 (largest r1s) vs 245 A (A7 now)?
I'm guessing that the 245 A7 on a 10 is faster than a 225/50 R1S on either a 9 or a 10...
This test has been scrapped after test fitting a 205bfg on my 9" wheels. They just wont work. I have 5 sets of 15x9 6uls so Im sort of commited to that wheel size

So the 245 A7 and its 10.0" section width is the best solution on a 10" wheel? Too much friction slowing down straightaway and corner exit speeds?
