when i've run 31 psi in my nt-01's they felt like old falken azenis. i was sliding all over the place. i don't know if you've tried higher psi, but i run 36-37 psi hot and it feels glued to the pavement. i also don't have 9'' w/ 225's, but it's worth a try. see if it feels better.

 

Emilio said to put them at 31. I'm not sure why I would try more pressure. I believe the stretch on the tire makes it like lower pressures better. The turn in felt better than ever too.

Fwiw I run my NT01's at 32 psi hot. Running the same wheels 15x9 6ULs. Pyrometer shows a gradual 15-20 degree spread from inside to outside.

 

I run 32 psi hot on 15x9 6UL. when I was on 15x8, I ran 34 psi hot.

but if you had to err, also err on the high side. IF 32 psi yield fastest lap time. then 35 psi will just be barely slower, yet crisper turn in. but 29 psi would be quite a bit slower and steering feel sluggish.

 

Maybe it's time for a new tire pressure gauge... check it against some others and see if it reads off. 4-5lbs off makes all the difference and we've had to send good Longacre gauges in to be calibrated so price/quality doesn't insure accuracy.

 

again, buy a pyrometer !!!
all it matters is what pyrometer tell you.

 

What temps/differences do I want in each area on the tire? Whats the school of thought based upon ambient air or track temps?

for the same reason you are now lowering your car. because maybe it'll feel better. because maybe it would lose a half second if emillio was driving your car, but you would gain 2 sec. because at a different psi the "feel" gave you the confidence to be at the limits in more corners. because you take everybody's reccommendation and then test it out on the track to see what works best for you, because no 2 cars or drivers are alike, because emillio has xida's and he doesn't even need tires on his rims to beat spec miata lap records on his warm up lap, because you are your own man.

now we're getting somewhere though. we have people with more than one trackday on 9''/225's and they are all doing 31-32psi range. we have the idea that an air pressure gauge could be off. that's very possible, my buddy with the evo at msr-h was airing his tires up using the guage on the air chuck. he saw me using my own gauge and asked why. i told him because his gauge was way off. he checks his tires and they were all at 23-24psi! point is we don't even know if your tires are an issue or not. but it's super easy to try different psi and see how it feels. this is real important to me since i'm gonna be on these wheels/tires soon. also makes sense what william said about running higher psi on his smaller width wheels. i guess i'll find out. thanks for your very helpful input everybody. this is good stuff.

 

Thanks. I'm so dumb to suspension stuff that I've chosen to be a lemming. I'm going to lower the car down tonight, put the new tie-rod ends on, align it, and maybe go back to the track on Sunday. Everyone needs to see the track at least once per week, right?

I feel like I'm driving the car like a man...if I get all this suspension stuff right, and I'm still slow its going to be a very, very sad day. The nice part is that I'm down to adjustments, and not "buying stuff."

Finally uploaded a video from that weekend. Its a little extra shakey, I need to gusset my diy camera mount, but the track is really bumpy.

 

...like Naomi Campbell cell-phone whipping my ***. Thanks for beating my *** with the GF in the car. She said I became furious and started shouting about "street rubber" during that ordeal, lol. I think its evident in every corner that your going faster, tighter...but now I've more than doubled camber and dropped the car 1.5" front and 1.25" rear. Its still really tail whippy though, so that rear sway may come off if I don't pur lighter springs back there before next weekend.

 

Hey, you'll be kicking my as in a few weeks at MSR-C. If you dont, I can do a few laps in your car and show you how its done .
