Percent Of U.S. Oil Imports From Russia Highest In Decades — At 3.5%
"Oil is a different story. Fifty-seven percent of U.S. oil imports in 2021 came from Canada, according to U.S. Census Bureau data I examined. That’s $75.95 billion from Canada, a mere $4.71 billion from Russia. Throw in Mexico, and almost two-thirds of all U.S. imported oil comes from a neighbor.

When it comes to oil imports, the 3.5% attributed to Russia in 2021 might have been the highest percentage from there in at least two decades, but it wasn’t the most by value. It was only the fifth highest total since 2008, the record year for U.S. oil imports by value."

Shouldn't this be zero for both? Doesn't it kinda look like we're not taking the invasion seriously when we continue to buy from Russia? Germany seems to have done an about face, and will be using more coal for power and other things. And their Green Party is OK with it.

Shouldn't we? I'm not ready to risk a no-fly zone, yet. But a total embargo that won't end until Ukraine gets ALL of their land back makes sense to me. I don't think the Russian people will let the country become the next "Hermit Kingdom."

Yes.

It looks that way because it is that way.

If it didn't look that way, folks would be screaming about a conspiracy / coverup. And justifiably so.

This is not a question.

But the energy situation in Germany is indeed distressing. They were once a shining example of an industrialized western nation nearing the goal of carbon-neutrality. Then they let the fearmongers take over the conversation, and now they're dismantling their whole nuclear-energy infrastructure in favor of a blend of fossil-fuels and non-nuclear renewables.

It's a net loss for Germany, and for Earth as well.

If "we" is interpreted as meaning "The Government" in this context, then no.

Doesn't even matter what the question it, in at least 90% of cases, the answer is "no, the Government should not do do that."

Most people have come to the realization that the "greening" of Europe has been an utter disaster, not the least of which is Germany. Behind closed doors it seems that Germany is using Ukraine to get back onto an energy path that won't destroy their country, which is where they were headed with their righteous Green policy.

And the other elephant in the room--who in their right mind would willingly hold their own country captive by ceding their energy needs to a totalitarian with nukes? That's as dumb as giving the #1 state sponsor of terrorism in the world a pathway to nuclear weapons. Oh, wait...

A unified world that shuts down all trading with Russia is the sanest response to this invasion. Seeing neighboring countries seeking inclusion into the EU or NATO is another consequence that Putin never seemed to envision. Good.

Not even sure, to be honest. Just a typical (sadly) conspiracy theory making the rounds in the usual echo chambers.

The scariest thing I've seen so far is the same people who just days before were complaining about how awful Treadeau was/is for arresting truckers and blocking their bank accounts, are applauding Putin because "Ukraine is corrupt"...
