Small update,
Have been removing paint in the engine bay and front end of the car for days now, found some rust so i went all out. it was a really shitty job.
will also seam weld around the towers and places the old FM book says it helps with rigidity.
And have finally got the exhaust flange cad'ed up.
My first plan was to have one exhaust bung machined in each runner, but the production time in the cnc went up a lot, so i will weld on bungs instead, one on each runner.

not that I don't think its baller and sweet, but why cnc profile the flange when you can form the pipe for the manifold into the port size anyways?

 

Why not cnc the WHOLE MANIFOLD?!?!

 

Why not CNC a better head?

The reason is more strength than anything else.
I have been making manifolds for different cars and engines for the last 15 years, and the 4 cylinder engine is the worst engine to make manifolds for that don't crack.
It may take several years with racing, but they always crack.
The place they usually crack is in the collector or in the transition between the engine flange and tube. so this time i want to try and use a billet flange that has a support edge for the tube and has the transition already done, and a billet collector to see if it makes the manifold survive longer.

 

Because that would not be possible with the runner lengths i will run.

 

That would have been a really cool project, but i don't have the skill, money or time to pull that off.
And then it would't be a BP engine any more.

 

We would all consider that to be a positive development and not a problem.
