Hung out with @aidandj @gesso @EO2K and @afm this weekend. Didn't bring my car, but got to ride in Aidan's a bit. Always a good time, other than breathing noxious oil/fuel mixed fumes. Fire pit in the pouring rain was a killer idea

I suspect that in his thread absence, he's been working in his lair to take the idea of organic clutches one step further, starting with an organic front lip that actually grows back!

 

**** that was a slippery day.

Didn't die though, and stayed on track. Better than others.

First "real" rain day, and it was definitely fun, would do it again.

It was fun, if it weren't for other things i'd probably be building a car right now for LD.

Other things involve becoming a dad.

We've got a baby due in May, pretty stoked about that. Trying to figure out how to mount a baby seat in the passenger seat of my car might be interesting though.

Probably never. Hailey still hates them. Maybe round 2?

Car market still sucks, so probably no purchases any time soon. Mazda 3 hatch will hopefully suffice for 1 kid, though I'm sure it will be tight.

 

1 small kid works OK in smallish hatches, yes. It's when you start needing to put them in full-sized, rear-facing seats that you really want the back seat space (and access to tie down points) that the minivan offers. And yes, the second one contributes to that as well.

We didn't go to a minivan until #2. Initially tried a 3-row crossover at the insistence of my wife (who hates minivans), but after living with it a few months was converted to the excellence of sliding doors.

 

Yeah once you go big, you can't beat sliding doors, especially in the first few months when we were pulling the twin's car seats out in OHSU's tiny parking garages for doctors appointments and ER visits 1-2 times a week. That was a small but significant convenience in that period of darkness and sorrow. I mean great joy and fulfillment. Congrats!

But with one kid, we had a CX-5 and a 328 and they were great. Would have kept that if the twins hadn't been twins.

I did have a NB2 for a year, thinking it'd be great for a signal baby seat. But keep in mind the car seat anchors didn't come till the NB2.5 (2003ish)

 

CX-5 is on the short list. But going to try and suffer through this weird car market.

Fingers crossed we don't have any issues, everything has been good so far.

MAZDA 5 bro, manual minivan with a sliding door the size of basically a mazda 6 wagon.

 

I keep wanting one of these. There are a few posts on miata.net about people who have had them. I think most people tend to love them, other then eating some front end suspension components. Not sure what exactly would go bad, but i do remember people talking about it.

 

'Grats. I've been using a Honda Ridgeline as my minivan for 4 years. Pretty good if you can bear the constant mockery. If you can't stand the heat, then definitely get a minivan.

 

I want to love these. I do love these. But they are underpowered and get similar fuel economy to the full size vans. More fun to drive, but lots of road noise. If Mazda had brought this in with a small diesel....... If only. I could have dealt with the road noise for that. But I'll hang on to my TDI VW.
