Ah ok. I'm having problems with an Advance axle at the moment. But may buy another pair to have on hand.

They're developing rotational play at outer cup vs. shaft. Super weird. Makes annoying noises.

That's a huge bummer, but If you got it insured then they should definitely take care of you

Can you just swap under warranty?

Yes, but it takes them about 2 hours every time to figure out how to warranty an online ordered part in store, and then in this last case, the new warranteed part was already within the realms of what i would call "bad."

Had to put it on anyways.

If i have a spare pair of known good ones on hand, it's easier for me to refuse the crap part they're putting in front of me since it would go back in my spares, and not directly on the car.

Oh ****, I think I remember you talking about this before.

Bummer sad. Maybe stock up on an extra axle so you have a spare "less bad" version to go in unless it's also crap right out of the box. Where these re-manufactured or listed as "new" as the links above? I think I'll check my carquest axles next time I'm under the car. Because paranoia.

I got "new," but it wasn't that brand, which is why i'm considering it. Maybe these are awesome.

Basically i'd have the pair on the car, the pair spare that i'd exchange until i had a good pair if necessary. One goes bad on car, i replace it with one of the spares, and warranty the bad one as many times as i need to get a good one to back in spare pair. Super fun, but oh well.

Did you check the spline count? Just want to make sure that Advance was able to differentiate between MSM specific axles. I am now having a suspicion that they don't know they are different because when cross checking the cars, it says the axles will fit both 2005 MSM and 1997 Miata. Might need to rectify before getting your diff back.

Sorry dude ;(

Oh if they're actually MSM axles please report back and tag me. I need a pair of those for a yet-to-be-thread'd project....

So they are NOT msm axles.

MSM Axle

Advanced NOT msm axle

I'm so freaking frustrated. We have some events coming up and I am stuck with the axle issue and the whole fedex issue. I was able to put by broken axle back together, it just slipped out of the cup but the side that goes on the wheel does not rotate freely so I'm weery of throwing it on the car. I have an event this weekend, if I can get the car up for that then fix it later that would be good.

On a successful front we finished my friends 2.5 swap.

Some of my tinkerings

I would have had this done a month ago if I had all the right parts. Oh well. No biggie on the axles. Here in a few days I'm going to post all my data in the helpful post section. Seems like msm axles are very rare.

I've not posted in a while. I was really getting down about this rebuild. I was running into one brick wall after another. Some mental, some real. Dealing with the msm axles or lack of was a pretty big set back then the FedEx thing. In the end I ordered a msm diff with axles pretty cheap. That will get me over the hump. I also bought a new 3.63 so at least I can drive my car and send off the gears for install. Here are some pics

While the car is down, I'm installing sound deadening.

Before:

After

Had to rewrite some of this for the new coils

I ended up beating my rails like they owned me money and installed these.

New spindles with ARP studs, refreshed arms with polly bushings

This car has seen more air time than all my other miatas combined.

I've using 2-3 layers of sound deadening material.

I'm hoping to get this side done tonight

The goods

It sure is a lot of work to get the carpet out. Reminds me of one time me and mixedbreed changed his carpet out the night before a big trip I forget why but that was fun.

I see you're using Rattletrap as the mass/damper, but what's the details on the foam stuff? Building a DD, figure i should probably do some work in this regard.

Have some links:

Amazon Amazon
Amazon Amazon
Amazon Amazon

I've never done this before so this is really a trial/error type thing for me. My car has a jackle/hyde personality. While off boost is reminds me of a stock miata, low noise nothing crazy. But under boost this thing is a completely different car. The turbo is SOOOOOO loud, I'm sure everyone at the Gap heard my car at some point.

Here is a cross section of the sound stuff, this is with 3 layers.

I got the rest of the flooring done. I had to order a new parcel shelf and fuel pump cover, mine were rust from an old leak. Once those are in I will do sound deadening there. I also started the car and ran it today, thats the first time since I added the "Big Spark Kit" FM wasn't clear on the spark order so I got the plugs wrong but it was an easy fix once I figured it out.

This sound deadening stuff is pretty easy to install once you have the interior out. I don't really feel like pulling the dash, but I bet putting some behind it would help.

Even with all this extra stuff, I'm still stuffing a towel in the tunnel.

Annnnnnd done.

Now the only thing keeping the car off the street is an axle I ordered. Once on the ground I'll get it aligned, then start doing some pulls for my tune. It will be a few weeks until my body guy can get to it so I will drive it around in the meantime.
