So... the Marrad is a knockoff of the Pole Position?

 

To this day the best seats I've ever sat in in a Miata are the MemoryFab ones that CXRacer has in his silver NA. About every 6~9 months I email them to find out if they are going to make more, but I don't think its going to happen. They still pop up from time to time in the SFBay area due to the group buys they did back in the day on NCR, but I have not seen any in quite a while.

 

Yes the marrad is based on the pole position, but it's scaled up a bit. I've sat in a pole position and the shoulder harness slots were too low.

I am with Mobi on this one. I have had a driver side Marrad for many years now. The price hurt, but the thing just works. I have the old version with no side belt holes. I usually drive around town with no cushions in and I am fine. I put the cushions back in for long drives and it is 10x better than stock seats on my lower back for 8-10 hour trips.

 

 

94 Corvette C4 sport seats. Stock Miata rails. 5'11" the seat is all the way back. I stole them at $150 shipped. A few 6+ hour drives. My lower back likes'em. 34" wasteline. I wanted a compromise of hold me in and reasonable in-and-out. The track/harness I'm sure can be figured out. YMMV

I can do a single Marrad and a G-Force 6 point harness with shipping for like $995. The Marrad is incredibly attractive because its literally plug and play, one and done if I buy it with the slider bases. I've never read anything bad from anyone about the seat (other than Turbofan above) but again, I still have not sat in one.

Anyone know of a Marrad between Sacramento and Bakersfield I can stick my butt in?

and you're absolutely right not buying a seat you can't test. I would never buy one without trying either. seat fitment and comfort is so relative

Edit: also, contact Marrad directly, they can probably point you to a local for fit testing. I did that twice for them.

180ish, 6'2, 34" inseam, 33" waist. Maybe 32 now. NZ has been promoting a healthy lifestyle. I may actually have to buy a new swimsuit for the right reasons.

So in terms of fitting in the seat, I'm not shall we say big-boned. But I'm pretty confident much larger waists than mine could fit into the car. Seriously. But I have to link this ...

I am 5' 10" 30 inch inseam, 33 inch waist, 175 pounds. I have wide shoulders and I am a bit cramped up top, but there is tons of space for my waist. The space up top is dictated by the dumb NB door panel that doesn't allow too wide of door wings. Mine has left a permanent shallow dent in that panel.

So to elaborate on the comfort of the Marrad seat - when I bought it, I ordered $80 worth of magic memory foam from Pegasus racing as Keith Tanner had said it was the magic stuffs to keep your *** from falling asleep on rally stage transits.

I have found it is unnecessary. I roll with the cushions to events. At the events, I remove the cushions, and strap my *** into the car as tight as I can against the fiberglass shell. Feeling what the car is doing ftw. I have had no issues with my *** falling asleep, even doing multiple sessions in a row. You are busy enough that everything is comfortable with no padding. If your *** falls asleep, you are not driving hard enough, literally.

I have to have the cushions in when using the 3pt belt anyway, because without them, the belt is too high. Having the seatbelt across your abdomen is FTL - if you're in a situation where you need the belt to restrain you, it's going to do so across soft tissues instead of your hips/pelvis where you got strong bones and stuff. The cushions sit me up high enough that the belt is down low enough to be safe.

I second everything Richard has said. Marrad's are the expensive and correct solution for Gordon's maybe/might be race car build

 

 

Have you tried the different spring yet? I ordered one from the US as no one stocks them in Australia, shipping was more than the spring.

I have not. I've been so silly busy its still sitting on my desk at the office. The good news is that the Turbosmart one works great. Greatly reduced jet engine noise in exchange for radically different blow off noise. It SOUNDS like a BOV now, where as the stock one just sounds ...weird in comparison.
