They all have it built in. It's probably not wired in though. Google ms3x pinout

Pin 27 to your vvt solenoid.

Was this ms3x second hand? Why wouldn't you buy a megasquirt with vvt functionality for a vvt motor?

no one uses the ms3x VVT output to actually control the VVT -- unless you don't want to idle well.

Someone with an NA chassis probably would.

I just posted what I thought Aidan was referring to and didn't check for pin usage on the NB1 chassis. My bad.

but yeah, any of those medium outputs is all you need technically. you just gotta watch out with the frequency banks, you can only setup two different frequencies between the (6) outputs.

I have an nb1. I didn't know the difference when I ordered it. I had seen everyone say that you just need to run 2 wires to the MS3X to gain functionality and I didn't think that required opening it up. Colipto's been having some issues (for some reason I think he has a reverend ecu though?) and I wanted to be sure that I wouldn't run into issues.

I also thought that they all came with it done if you bought it from brain. I also didn't think I was going to swapping heads let alone building a motor...but here we are!

Can you ELI5 this to me please? Just run the wire from the vvt solenoid to like nitrous 1? It shouldn't require opening the MS should it? Just run the wire and solder it into the spot on the harness?

VVT Solenoid has two wires.
Grab power from the injector harness (white/red stripe from any injector plug) and connect to solenoid, run the other from the solenoid to megasquirt Nitrous1 to control VVT

Power off the injector harness, 1 wire to megasquirt for VVT solenoid
Lets not get carried away. Thanks!

Step 1. Disconnect the plugs going into your ECU.
Step 2. Look at the plugs you unplugged, you want the DB37 pin - they have two small screws (covers) take them off to expose the wires.
It looks like this.

Step 3. Get a piece of wire, pre-tin it and stick it into the correct hole (Nit1 is pin 24) View diagram posted above.
Step 4. With wire in, solder.
Step 5, Put back together and run signal wire to VVT.
Step 6. Get power and run to VVT. ( i get mine from injector harness 12v)
Step 7. Pray to the megasquirt gods that it works and you don't get VVT1 err like me, else you'll forever be hating your non-working vvt like me.

For the record, My ECU is brain built - I've tried everything hes said but uhh Yeah let me know if yours works.

I made the error of using the VVT out on megasquirt all this time. Never knew the rhyme or reason to use Nitrous1 until this thread. Oops, car still ran fine unless i'm just used to poopy idle.
You still don't know. Not an error on a NA chassis. If built using brain's guide VVT out is unused on an NA. EDIT: For clarity, the issue with a NB using the VVT output is that brain already uses it for alternator control.

On a NB1 brain uses the nitrous 1 output for the VICS solenoid. If you're using a VICS manifold you may have a bad time.

Sorry Brain. I guess my saving grace when swapping the VVT motor in was internal regulation in alternator, and square top.
I didn't build that site until this winter.

Thats not the issue. The issue is frequency banks. VVT and idle must share the same frequency because of the hardware design. You don't want that.

Kinda sorta from time to time. His VVT duty/angle log looks like it has tourettes.

Post up a log Mike. *edit: in your thread cause I just realized this isn't your thread
